'Jade Cascade'

Yes, Chris has it. I just ordered one, but I was thinking local to Dr. Dave. He had mentioned a nursery on the west side of Cleveland.

Seedling's size?

It's hard to tell from the pictures, but how big is the plant and its leaves?

Vigorous breeder

This 2004 OP 'Salute' seedling has given me vigor, medium size, white backs, and shape for my breeding program. I'm trying to add more blue to it.

Is this Hosta cold?

This 2003 cross of 'Salute' x 'Mikawa-no-Yuki' folds itself up longitudinally. I can only guess it's protecting itself from the weather.

Dessication fom freeze thaw, not disease, is the probable culprit.

AHS Convention deadline extended!!!

This just came in. This is a reminder that the American Hosta Society Convention this year is in St. Louis from June 11 to 14. Since most of us have been experiencing a much later spring than usual, we are extending the regular registration fee of $250 from May 1 to May 13, 2008. This new date coinc...

Substitute

Ginger, you might try Olga's 'Dawn's Early Light', although it doesn't have the red in it.

Alttara's 'Cherry Tart' has the red, but I'm not sure the yellow is as bright, or the substance is much better. I'll check mine when it's up.

Fire and brimstone

Jim, your publisher may object. Fire and brimstone doesn't promote sales of gardening books.

Lack of substance

Unfortunately, Ginger, that is a problem with 'Fire Island'. It causes it to burn in too much sun. So you put it into more shade, and it's chartreuse. It's a Catch-22!

There are other early, bright yellows that might be better. They all turn chartreuse after a few weeks, though.

Maggi, that's a useful article. Thanks. You'll note the mention of the American Hosta Society as part of the funding for Dr. Parwinder Grewal's research. Unfortunately, that was terminated due to a feeling within the AHS that Dr. Grewal's recommendations were somewhat influenced by chemical companie...

Nematodes

Maggi, unfortunately there is no mention of foliar nematodes. Most nematode research has been for food crops.
