I might have a plant with nematodes
I got in a shipment of hosta plants (most OS and expensive) and got them planted a few weeks ago....have kept them watered and they are in a pretty much shady place. They really only get glimpes of overhead sun, they do get indirect morning sun so I don't think they are scorched, but they were in a ...

Re: Recommendation for Large Variegated Hosta
I have heard that white elephant is a good grower for being a white centered hosta.
And I just got lime smoothie and journey's end too. Will see how they grow, hoping at least up to the hype.

How do you clean your shovels?
I have a pail of coarse sand that I put water in and a good glug of bleach on days that I am using the shovel. I figure the sand help clean the debris and dirt off the shovel.
Does any one else use a different method. I like to get the dirt off too when I am using the shovel.

How big is your Lakeside dividing LIne
My lakeside dividing line as sported solid leaves in line with the size that Zillis says the leaves should be, like 8 1/2 inches by 4 inches. But the neat part is that the divided lines part of it has huge leaves, like 12 inches by 7 inches. It was like this last year too. How big is yours????????????

Re: New to this message board
Welcome too to the forums. A  will have to do for now, but I really prefer our local wines. Does anyone know that southern Illinois does make some fantasic wines? We have a booming wine trail business with lots of little B&B's popping up along the trail. I think there are 11 to 12 different vi...

Re: How much space ... should a hosta have?
I try to space the hostas where I want them to be in 5 or 10 years. I sort of like the look of them not touching if at all possible. (Is it Lucy Goose that can't stand to have them touch....I have her phobia too  I can always add annuals in the mean time for color and the such. I also have adde...

Do you have a separate bed for the little guys?
I want to start breeding hostas some day, concentrating on the little hostas. I of course, have lots to choose from and am considering putting the smalls into a bed of their own. (That of course, would go against my hosta theme beds that I do). Do you think they deserve a bed of their own or do they...

Re: My heart has sunk
Just remember how resilient hostas are and try not to cut any damage off if you can avoid it. They will be fine, just look crappy for awhile. I had trees down from a probable tornado, all over my beds this spring, we are still cutting them up and hauling off. I keep telling myself ...........it coul...
