Excellent read. I should have waited to read it with tomorrow's coffee. Would have made a nice start to the day.
Interesting thing for me about many of your NPOTD is they are plants that I don't have. So they will be forever connected with the narrative if I ever get them in the future!

Mine turned rust color for two reasons - a) I knew it was in too much sun but I was ok with that for this year but when it got worse all of a sudden b) voles had eaten all the roots and it wasn't getting any water anymore. See if you can tug on it and lift it out of the ground. I've learned the hard...

Carol, This evening I had one left on my kitchen floor by one of the resident dogs or cats. As I said - I can't really imagine having a pest that was so big it could beat up my pets! I would have freaked out a lot more tonight than I did over a little vole! Mental note: Don't move to sections ...

LOL! Love the post (repeating myself). Mislabelling - I have a nice big potted hosta that was labelled Guacamole which it absolutely was NOT. The nursery guy swore to me that it was the same plant because he read the description on the label... green leaf with darker green margin. I told him --- Loo...

Here's a few pics of the area from different angles. The whole area is still under construction. I put all of these plants in yesterday and made this bed from scratch. Several were victims of vole attacks so you can see that they look like crap (brown and shrivelled) and several others were divided ...

My Sherborne Swift (Smith/Tardiana but not common) gets brilliant blue like that and appears to be around the same compact size but I think the leaves are more pointy and less heartshaped. This does look like a Smith/Tardiana in my completely non-professional opinion. I have a really really blue Had...

Your hosta is much more "unforgettable" than mine with those wider margins and that "sporty" color! :o My margins are definitely not as wide. This is though, the first year this one has mature leaves and a good presence. http://lh4.ggpht.com/addieotto/SEyGjcf-W4I/AAAAAAAAAu0/-xrGAdMETMM/s400/019.JPG

That did it. The Stewie reference came so unexpected after I had already spit potato chips out of my mouth while laughing at the post ... prompting my darling boy friend to mute the tv in the other room to check in on my ability to breathe... All NPOTD posts will now opened with a - no food or drink...

Late to the party but halfway through reading your post I was raising my hand saying oooh oooh, Fire Island, Fire Island!! Dancing Queen always makes that song go through my head. Strangely, I'm not entranced with Halcyon but I am fascinated by some of the progeny. I really like El Nino and although I don't have First Frost, I don't think I will be adding it. Once again - a great NPOTD!! El Nino is an amazing powder blue for me now. Here it was emerging with that bright white...
