Thanks

thanks Debbie for the thought but mine has some leaves that look like they are suppose to, just has more that don't. I am quite guilty of buying a hosta and burying away somewhere and only checking on it when I have a reason. This is one of those and it is not a spectacular plant. However when the f...

OS

OS is originator stock.

What I am showing is two virtually identical plants.
I have grown an number of other LS Black Mama plants from seed and the F1 represented in the picture is far and away the closest I have ever seen.

I doubt the originator could tell the difference.

You Decide

I decided it might be fun to compare a OS Lakeside Black Mama with a Lakeside Black Mama F1 3rd year plant. I always thought it was a lousy example of one but it was the only timely one I had.
I would like to see yours with speckles though.

I picked this one up late season last year for a couple bucks as a little 1st year plant and planted it, it was one of the last ones to come in this year, and then forgot about it.

Your picture made me take another look.

Perhaps

I have heard that Cayenne Pepper spray (available at most garden centers) works wonders on critters eating hostas.

Your posting reminded me that I have some and was going to try it this year. It is even rumored to keep those other nasty insects away but I would have to see it to believe it.

Pizzazz

This is one of two Pizzazz in the gardens. The artistic intent was to have the miniature geranium (can't remember the name of it) grow up through the plant.
It worked out rather well.
A bird or two have added their own brushstrokes to it.

It is a fast grower with some sun but I prefer full shade for the deeper blue.

Photography

Well thank you Allnitro. Others have indicated that my abilities with a camera are equal to an all night party with Paris Hilton and Brittney Spears.

Not much artistic abililty but a lot of fun to see em.

Later

Later in the year this plant will be devastated by the slugs.

Nice plant otherwise. Perhaps the more hardy Nightlife will work out better......
Dare I say so?

Leaf

The is the leaf today. It is showing some nice green coloration in the middle. It is one of those you like more as it gets older. I saw a 3 year old specimen a few weeks ago and it was outstanding.

I like mine and one of the major breeders is using it in his program this year.

I have done a few crosses with it but not many.

No idea if it fertile but the regular dividing to keep it normal looks to be very true.
