Trudy, that recipe sounds delicious and so easy. DH (the Italian) makes his the old world method with black pepper and garlic cloves, served with roasted sweet red bell peppers and hot giardineira on the side. Maybe you should call yours Dutch Beef Sandwiches? Anyway I had never heard of peppe...

You made a good choice with Permanent Wave, it's a lovely hosta and passes the 10' rule. :D

My largest leaves measure about 12" long, the plant itself is 48" wide and has been in the ground since '03, never divided. Hosta registrar lists the length at 16" while Zilis lists it at 12", go figure.

A 4' alligator was captured last week from a drainage pond near downtown Chicago. An alligator handler and his son pulled it out, showed it off, and it is being transported to Florida.

Thanks for your input, Karma. "Count to ten and turn it off'"? :o I've been running it for 1/2 hr then moving to the next area. In that time the soil is soaked wide and deep. I'm loving this tool and picked up 2 of them from a yard sale. Last week I needed to move a few plants so let the oscillating...

Ross Root Feeding Tool

Is anyone familiar with these? It's an spike-like apparatus with 4 holes at the base that attaches to the hose and forces liquid nutrients below the soil to tree roots. You punch it into the ground as deep as you want. My bright idea is to use it to get plain water below the mulch in areas that are ...

Dennis, you have explained the benefits perfectly as I understand them. I've been brewing compost/alfalfa teas with aeration for several years, also add dry molasses for additional nutrition for beneficial soil microbes. I've read that it increases their populations dramatically. I believe if tea st...

I've spent the last week lifting hosta that are struggling to grow under the canopy of larger hosta and mature shade trees. They get so wimpy when they don't get enuf light and so blasted in the sun. ~groan~ Looking for that happy medium. Yours look perfect. :D
