Re: Moved over 500 hostas
Hi Pia! Yes, the "zone" for the US is only based on the low temperature and doesn't take anything else into account. Back when we shipped plants people would tell me to ship for their zone's appropriate planting time, but that didn't mean anything at all. Everyone's gardens wake up at different time...

Re: Moved over 500 hostas
The stones are from the back wall of the barn that collapsed a year ago. Sadly the owner of this house never maintained anything and the old stone barn collapsed after 110 years. All he had to do was repoint a little mortar each year and this barn would have been perfectly fine. We are going to try ...

Re: Moved over 500 hostas
We brought two kitties, Sully and Foxy, and they are both doing fine. Sully acted like nothing at all but Foxy is having a harder time with the transition. Sully goes in and out and loves it here. Foxy went out one day and came back in that evening but the next day she went out and disappeared for 3...

Re: Brugmansia House
The white plastic works pretty good. That's what we used when we covered things at our old place, and when you have a lot of heat I think it helps some.

Re: New Greenhouse Time
That's really nice, but yes, looks like a bigger one would help! We are going to try and get a couple hoop houses set up to do winter propagating and grow veggies year round. I'm hoping we can find used ones like we did at the old place - we had 8 hoop houses/greenhouse structures and only 4 were pu...

Re: Moved over 500 hostas
Oh yes, I've seen the crazy weather change there. My brother and nephew live in Salem and Corvallis and they've shared pictures of the drought and heat and fires. Sorry that you have had problems with the gardens. I know I miss the people here too. I'm going to work on this a bit, though, and see if...

Re: Moved over 500 hostas
Yup, moved them in July and they are just starting to go dormant now :) Moving the cats was also a lot of work but that was worth it too, though one got out of the house and won't come back in. I figure once it starts raining she will change her mind. And I think I'm gardening in a zone similar to y...

So far it works great on mobile devices and even allows pictures to be uploaded from your photos or from a camera. I just need a couple more changes here and there.

Moved over 500 hostas
These are in Ireland now! We moved them in July and they grew nicely this summer. Now they are going dormant.

New forums - let me know if you find any issues
Hi everyone, Starting today the forums have been updated to a new version and while I still need to make a few minor changes I think most everything is working the same. It looks like all the images made it here safely. If you see problems, or encounter anything odd, please let me know. See you arou...

I am working on upgrading the forum
Hi all,
Not sure how many people get on here any longer, but I am currently working on upgrading the forums to a newer version. This could allow us to view the forum easier on mobile devices. Let's hope it all works out
Cheers from Ireland!
Chris

Re: Got Sports? I'm a bit overloaded with them! (Pic heavy)
Hi Ed, and greetings from Ireland! It was fun to look back at my original topic. A few of those sports received names, a few never developed or maybe didn't even remain stable, and then I brought several other totally new sports with me to Ireland along with a couple original seedlings. As soon as I...

Re: water lily question
Hi, I always use regular garden dirt in the bottom of my water lily baskets, then plant the roots near the top, with the top of the root just slightly above the garden soil, then I put rocks over that to cover the dirt and the water lily root. This works great for me - no special soil needed, though...

Re: HVX on NBC?
Hi BK, I don't see any signs of HVX on your Night Before Christmas, and since you grow them in pots I also would not worry about keeping them as they are sort of isolated already. And did you get any help on the fungus problem? I wonder if a fungicide drench of some kind will stop some of that? Also...

Re: Help - I've got root-knot nematodes
I think if you treat for fusarium then it will be okay to plant there. But it can get bad if left untreated, especially if the soil dries out often. We are between things now but I will post once more is settled. We are still trying to sell but hostas are moving next month :D and the rest of our pla...

Re: flowering hostas
Hello, Flowering maturity will vary greatly depending on how old the original plants were. Some will flower in a season or two and others might take longer. Also hostas flower at very different times of year, depending on the variety, so there is still time for your plants to send up flower scapes i...

Re: Help - I've got root-knot nematodes
Hi Ann, I don't see signs of root knot in any of those pictures. The big crown pieces make it appear that the plants were much deeper at one time, but those are simply hostas crowns that were growing up and out over time. The roots sloughing off could be a sign of fusarium root rot, though, and that...
