My OD was also new this year and had two flower scapes. It has set one seed pod on each. Not sure what it was crossed with but the plant I was most able to get pollen from at that time was Cherry Berry. And I don't find it ugly either. But then I didn't get it until after it had emerged and turned g...

I have one baby from KS last year and am hoping to have more seeds this year - they are still blooming. Last year I had to cut the scapes and mature them in sugar water. Your seedlings give me hope for the future. Keep us informed on the progress of the seedlings.

If they are not mature, you can cut them and mature them inside in sugar water. About 1 tsp to a cup of water. Change the water and trim the scapes every 4 days or so.

My new ones in 2006 were: Those I liked best: Allegan Fog - a real pleasure. good growth, lovely leaves. Blue Ice - an August aquisition and it's done very well. Cherry Berry - extremely good growth. I love it. Fujibotan - gave me six full scapes of triple lavender flowers this year. Dark glossy, gr...

I agree that the pictures are the best way to go, but for this site, at least, you need to have proper software to make the pics small enough. If you have it and can figure out how to use it, sends them is really easy. Otherwise, not.

viktoria - I was wondering the same. I have roots around Rochester and just returned there for a high school reunion of more years than you want to think about - but I met MollyD and a couple of others we know from Dave's Garden on Friday. Ann oops - missed your reply somehow. But a bit further east...

Carol - I'm so sorry to hear about the theft from your garden. These are our babies; so you must have been in an awful shock. I have Patriot and at the moment, it looks more like the one on the left, but I bet the comment above that they could both be the same is correct.

viktoria - where are you located?

Here in Ottawa, I was also lucky to have a giant bloom from mine at the end of August. Fragrant and glorious. It had a giant second bud, but I don't think it has actually opened. Must go look today though.

Chris, You indicated earlier that a very large percentage of Gypsy Rose were infected and I found signs of it in my own plant last June. I also have First Frost which was new to me this season from a reliable Canadian nursery. Do you have any indication of how prevalent it is in First Frost? And was...

Masquerade

I've had Masquerade for about 8 years. I find it slow to emerge in spring and a VERY slow grower and I've never seen any greening of the leaves though I suppose it might depend on your zone and general growing conditions. But I reviewed my pics - taken about once a week - of Masquerade in two locati...

Ice Age Trail is one of my favourites. Mine was new spring 2006 from a Canadian nursery near me. So far no blooms and I may move it into a new garden I'm making where it will get a bit more light, but it's exciting to hear that it set seed. Something munched the uppermost leaf early in the season. Ann

sorry Papou

Sorry to hear about your infected Hosta. It also caught up to me just before I went on vacation on June 22 with my Gypsy Rose (purchased from a reliable Canadian mail-order source). so it drove home the need to remain vigilant. Ann PS Canadian Hosta Girl - where are you from? I haven't posted as muc...

Thanks, Chris.
I didn't expect any reprieve although it saddens me. Having the confirmation of my suspicions, I'll do what I have to do and try to do so before I leave town for 3 weeks tomorrow.

Just today I became suspicious of my Gypsy Rose which was new a year ago and came from a respected Canadian source.

This is my first post over here though I'm a regular on Dave's Garden. I hope I do this right.

I'll try two pictures.
