I was really getting into my seed cleaning the last day I worked on them.
Almost sorry to not have anymore to clean.

Not having been there [nor wanting to be] I'd say his battle scenes are probably as accurate as any you'll find.
No sugar coating of 'history' at all. I'm a big fan of both of the Ragnars!! And Uhtred of course.

Re: Photo update Hostadrea 31 oct. 2010

Interesting. Seems to be the way with many of the newer plants that aren't totally tetraploid but somewhere in between.

Re: I just got The Genus Hosta by W. George Schmid

I was just reading somewhere the other day that the most recent printing of Schmid's book was done with mostly black & white pics.
I found one of the originals earlier this year. About twice the amount you paid for yours.

Don't forget the French addition to English, Pia. I've been reading a series of fictional historical books called The Saxon Tales so I have a much better understanding of you darned Danes invading England now. [Bernard Cornwall is the author - "The Last Kingdom" is the 1st book in the ...

Re: Couldn't wait!!

I've been using an old 'melamine' plate to clean seeds on. If the seed kernel looked underdeveloped/iffy, I would drop it on the plate from several inches above it. If there was a definite sound when it dropped, I kept it. Otherwise it went to the opposite side of the plate & then into the garbage b...

Re: Couldn't wait!!

It's great to be excited. :D I've been cleaning seed. Told myself that I'd wait to plant any until the hybridizing experiment in the atrium is over. So now that the last 2 plants I brought in from the garden have finished blooming, what do I tell myself?? Good luck with your seeds, Dash!! :D

That looks great, Art!! Full bloom too. I hope you enjoyed your birthday. :bd: I know Chris has shown pics of Wily Willy in his display garden. I saw one in bloom this fall at The Flower Factory in WI. It looks to be related to Tardiflora. Leaves and flowers are very similar. An Ed Elslager registra...

I liked the line-up for the most part too.
But I'd much rather have Dave Wanninger as the last main speaker.

Re: General question about our online catalog

If I were going to add the non-shippable inventory, I'd have it in a separate section that clearly states that the items will NOT be shipped, cannot be combined with other plants that are being shipped, and must be purchased in-person at the nursery. But you'll still get the usual people who can't r...

Re: Touch of Class look-alikes?

I see that Dinner Jacket isn't listed with a U.S. price yet so we'll have to wait a while on doing a side by side comparison with some of the other TOC lookalikes.

Looking very nice still. :) Nothing here that good now. No frost here yet, but some hostas are yellowing after temps in the 30's for several nights.

Re: Touch of Class look-alikes?

Interesting theory, Chris. There's always that sense of mystery with hostas that other plants just don't seem to have.
Maybe it's because they're kinda shady...
