Re: Pharelion looks suspicious
Hello and welcome. This looks entirely like frost damage to me. I bet if you look at the back of the leaves that are damaged you will see some bubbling where the tissue is separating where it froze. Watch for the newest growth and it will probably look fine. Hope that helps and if you have other que...

Re: Fragrant Flower
I try to visit but honestly forget for long stretches. We are still trying to sell in Michigan and really thought it was going to happen this spring but then the pandemic shut everything down. But we bought a house in Ireland, closed on it in March and got the key and stayed for a bit there. Once th...

Re: Fragrant Flower
That's pretty cool to get a cross using guacamole as the pod parent. Pretty for a fragrant flower too.

Re: Hosta Eyes
Is spring coming soon there? We have some snowdrops and winter aconite showing in a few spots. The only hosta eyes are coming up in the garage - way too early!

Re: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
They loved the house but the property wasn't quite what they hoped for. They said they needed it to be more flat though our description does say rolling hills. Good feedback otherwise, though, so I'm sure someone will come along eventually.

And we have a showing this afternoon on our property here in Michigan. Damn it would be great if it all comes together now.

Re: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
Thank you! We have the contracts on the house now and are waiting on an engineering report. As long as there are no major surprises like a crumbling foundation or roof on the verge of collapse then we will sign the contracts and schedule the closing. They want to close 4 weeks from the signing so we...

Re: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
Happy new year! Yes I still check in but nothing like in the old days. Great to still have this info here for people :) We are still trying to sell the old property and waiting to close on our new house in Ireland. Both processes have been slow but we are glad to do it in this order. Trying to coord...

Re: Some thoughts on sterile hostas
And I wonder about Dream Maker - when it sports to a solid blue hosta they don't look anything like Blue Angel. For that matter Guardian Angel also doesn't sport to Blue Angel when it goes solid - so there is some other sporting going on with those plants or there is variation of Blue Angel out ther...

Re: Some thoughts on sterile hostas
I had noticed that Blue Angel never seemed to set seed but I found a seedling that came up in a bed of Blue Angel which is just massive - bigger than Blue Angel and approaching Sum and Substance sized leaves but blue and corrugated. The flowers are identical to Blue Angel and blossom at the same tim...

Probably was growing in way too much sun and cooked during the heat.

Oh, that is sad. Mary Ann hosted me for an overnight stay quite a few years ago when I went to the winter scientific meeting and her and her husband were wonderful hosts. It snowed like crazy and she still helped to guide me to her house. Wonderful lady.

Re: Physan 20
Hi Barb, I use lysol as an alternative. It is a lot easier to work with and likely does a much better job of actually disinfecting because unlike bleach it is not neutralized quickly in the presence of of organic matter. Since we do so much cleaning I buy gallon jugs of lysol I.C. quaternary ammonia...

Yes, I think that is Krossa Regal. The other reminds me of Pearl Lake - definitely isn't Hyacinthina.

Re: Seedling variability
Hi, I would think that if you have such a huge range of variability in the seedlings that they weren't labeled very well when you bought them. Yes, you will see quite a bit of variability within a batch, but they should all still have some similar traits such as leaf shape and vein space even if the...

It sure looks like Hosta plantaginea. Are those late flowers really long and very fragrant? If so then definitely plantaginea.
