Re: Hosta 'Elisabeth'

It's cool to see some of the older hostas that are "off the grid," so to speak. That one's lovely!

Garden Appreciation!

I'll bet most of you know how this works. So often, when you go out into your garden, you see everything that needs to be done instead of everything you've accomplished. You spot the stray weeds while overlooking the beautiful foliage. You see the plant you really need to move rather than soaking in...

Thanks, all. I'll give it some time to do its thing and see how it shapes (and colors) up.

That's a sharp hosta. Maybe your posting it here will help it...rise from the ashes. ;)

Re: Gift hosta with no ID

I thought someone might say that, Ann. I hate not having an ID...it drives me crazy. (Have patience? How long is that going to take?! :-? ) My guess would be that it's not a very hard-to-find variety, whatever it is. It was picked up at a farm market, so I don't have any way of figuring out where it...

Gift hosta with no ID

This was given to me as a gift, but it didn't have a tag. For size reference, this is in an 8" pot and still unfurling somewhat. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-uKblGb_jyA0/UZKRzgcu41I/AAAAAAAAACE/6ECU16OtvhU/s640/P1070031.JPG I had thought that maybe it was a young 'On Stage,' but I'm not certai...

Re: Regal Splendor placement?

My 'Regal Splendor' has grown like gangbusters in a pretty significant amount of shade. It gets mostly dappled light, with a (very) brief period of direct sun in the late afternoon. It's gone from 8 eyes in 2011 to 16 in 2012, and looks like it has 26 this season. I'm not complaining. The only thing...

Re: 2013 hostas in Ottawa

Looking good! 'Baby Bunting' is a cute one. Mine are maybe only just slightly further along in unfurling. Slow season, but that's good. Despite warnings a couple nights ago, I've managed to avoid frost all season, and now we're looking at nice warm temps all week and right through our last frost dat...

Re: Pics from today and 1 noid

You probably shouldn't even get us started on camera recommendations. But, since I'm now started...I love my Panasonic Lumix. I have the FZ-40, which is their pro-sumer or "bridge" camera (a camera with a lot of DSL features and a built-in 24X zoom), and a little pocket DMC-FH20. They're aweso...

Re: Hallo

My sister-in-law is Swedish. When her family visits, they speak Swedish to one another, naturally. Every now and then I hear a word that seems to make sense. It's funny, though, because I have an easier time understanding the romance languages (Latin-based), even though English is Germanic. I can al...

Re: A 'Breeder's Choice' seedling

I've been thinking along the same lines, Ann. I find they're a little too small when I start them in January, so I figure I'll try to get them started some time in November. They seem to do just fine growing indoors under lights for that length of time. The last time I started seedlings late (late F...

Re: Pics from today and 1 noid

I upload the image to any online service. Picasa will automagically upload them to any Google/Gmail account you're using -- just click the "Share on Google+" button and log into an account. Once you've done that: 1. Right click on any photo you want to share 2. Select "Copy image location" (in Firef...

Re: Possible freeze tonight, so everything is covered...

Can't wait to get the order! :D Yep, this was one spring where I didn't have to put up tent cities in my yard multiple times. And we've had plenty of moisture. It got off to a slow start, but worked out well for us gardeners. I just wish I was slightly less impatient, but...that's what this forum is...

I had planted one with pretty foliage called, I think, 'Blushing Bride.' Couldn't keep that alive, either. But the pink-flowered and blue-flowered kind are thugs.

Re: Possible freeze tonight, so everything is covered...

My order is one going out this week, so thank you Chris, Brian and helpers for going the extra mile! We had freeze warnings here last night and I decided to let the few partially unfurled hostas that I have fend for themselves. I was up all night last night (insomnia, not hosta worries), and ...

CRAPPY CAMERA  If you have Picasa3 loaded - process the photo thru the 'I'm Feeling Lucky' function...does a nice job with haze. Yes! I love Picasa. I have Photoshop Elements, but I find that I end up using Picasa a lot of the time because it's quick, easy, and does a good job fine-tuning my p...
