'Atlantis' - Hosta of the Day - add your photos

H. 'Atlantis' is a tetraploid mutation of H. 'Abba Dabba Do' from Minnesota's Hans Hansen. This hosta makes a huge 5' wide clump of slightly wavy, pointed green leaves. Each leaf is bordered with a very wide light yellow margin. In mid-summer, the vigorous clump is topped with 30" spikes of light la...

Re: Pic of the Day--August Moon

My August Moon that I received as one small eye in 2014. It's on the dry edge of a bed but seems to be increasing regularly.

Re: Pic of the Day--Antioch

And here's my Antioch two years later, after having been moved. It seems to have settled with getting less water now too (my farthest bed = my least attention).

Here is Alex Summers blooming this July 2014. It's doing well enough, even though planted between a burning bush, dogwood, and some large rhododendrons.

Nancy, I also hope the plants comes back for you. I'm very glad that Chris does grow them and talked me into it five years ago. Pretty sure it was my most expensive hosta at the time! But I love it so much now.

Re: Hallson Hosta Gathering

I must confess that I didn't take any pictures except for some hostas. Brian took some pics of the gourds, but I don't know what else.

P.S. I should totally have taken a pic of Brian wearing two straw hats PLUS a baseball cap.

Re: What is the Hosta you're most disappointed in?

Ann, my Paradise Island always looked like that by summer, until I dug it up and put it in a temp pot one year. I ran out of time so just sank the pot in the ground, and Paradise Island has been happy ever since, maybe three years. I took a pic for you the show the edge of the pot (just a leftover h...

Re: Suggestions?

Sweetee, can you go tested to verify it's the pine that is causing your allergy issues? Also, I must confess that I don't use pine bark. I'm not about to pay more for small fines or sift through big pieces of bark to get the small bits. So i just buy stuff called path and play chips from Home Depot ...

Re: What is the Hosta you're most disappointed in?

Ann, your Red Hot Flash looks just like my First Mate. Pretty sure I haven't photographed it this year for this very reason. :-? I have a cold right now and haven't been in the garden this week, but this picture is a good reminder to add it to my list.

Annual Get Together

So I know I'm impatient :D But do we have any ideas on when the get together will happen this year? I have a short list of hostas that I'm waiting to buy then! Plus I'm excited to mingle and talk hostas.

Re: What's happening to 'Mack the Knife'?

Ann, do you use mulch during the winter/early spring or mix in bark below ground? I had a couple hostas emerge with a few similar deformed leaves this year. They were from my last hosta order that I potted up quickly and never planted in the ground. I think the tender new leaves got damaged when try...

Re: What is the Hosta you're most disappointed in?

Nancy, maybe try digging up your Journey's End and checking the roots? Mine is a fast grower and huge. But I had a beautiful Alex Summers that ended up looking like your a couple years ago, pale and limp leaved. My only guess is that it sank too far in the ground over winter. I waited too long to lo...

Re: What is the Hosta you're most disappointed in?

Yeah, my Loyalist never grew either, so I gave it away in trade. Orange Marmalade wasn't growing well for me. I moved it to the hospital/temporary bed, and it's doing fine now. Well, not growing huge, but not shrinking anymore. Dixie Chickadee is okay here, and it's even in the ground. I've divided ...

And here's what's left of my Americana. It was actually doing well the first couple years in the garden but has been going downhill for the last three. It now lives in the hospital/holding bed.

You mean besides the dead ones? Montana Aureomarginata. Here's a pic from two years ago, and it's smaller again now. I've had to move it so many times due to bad location that I think it's permanently stunted. Might have to give up on it. http://i1158.photobucket.com/albums/p603/Eleven-ish/2012%20Ho...
