Got a plan?
Seems like every year I have a plan as to what I want to achieve as far as crosses go, but either I don't have the pollen ready, I'm running late, I want to save my frozen pollen for other blossoms that will be opening later, the fresh pollen is just too handy, and a thousand other reasons. Three th...

Sorry, I thought this post was about women's undergarments.
Was just checking to see how your weather was different than ours.

Some yellows to brighten your day
These are all seedlings from my crosses in the past. These all stay pretty much yellow year around. The weeds were intentionally left in the garden to show the color contrast (ya, right )

Re: question please
Hi Cindy!
Since Alex is a sport of Gold Regal, my guess is that your yellow eye is just a reversion back to Gold Regal. If you want to retain the yellow eye, just divide it off.
Good luck

Re: Seedings are starting to come up
Kinda fun to see how they return. Some pleasing and some dissapointing. These would certainly please me. I have several that I thought would come back multi-eyed but didn't. After thinking about it, I guess I'm happy that they came back with a single eye and look promising rather than with eyes that...

Thanks Paul. If I remember correctly, Reptillian is one of your favorites? That cross certainly got it's pebbling from the Reptillian side.

A few seedlings
Been a while since I posted but I have been lurking regularly. Here are a few seedlings from the past couple years that catch my eye every time I walk by them. Please post your own favorites on this thread. Thanks for viewing.

Anybody getting anxious yet?
Personally I haven't collected any seed yet. I see Jeff just listed some seed on the Hosta Library Auction. I still want to attempt a few crosses if my schedule will allow it, and it seems as if the bees are more active now than they have been all summer. I have a red-legged seedling from a couple y...

Re: Pollinating...how late?
Hi again, Mike
I knew you were going to ask this, and since I didn't remember, I didn't answer your quesion in my last post. Maybe somebody will chime in here or you could ask the question on the hosta forum. Dr Dave or somebody should know the answer. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Re: Pollinating...how late?
Hi Mike, Can't answer the questions about the viability of the pollen or the pod setting ability of the two you mentioned, but I do know that it takes 6 to 8 weeks from pollination 'till seed maturity. Go ahead and make the crosses and see what happens. You can always cut the scapes before a killing...

Re: So what are you doing in your hosta gardens these days?
I need to be doing some "hosta shuffle" here also, but at this point I think I'll just make a few notes and do it in the spring so I don't have to deal with the foilage. The only thing going on in the hosta gardens these days is hybridizing. The last of my streakers are about done, Outrageous and Li...

Don't know how I missed this thread, I've been lurking heavily here lately   If planted in a place where it will get sun till noon or so, it will retain that yellow edge but it never looks as good this late in the year as it does earlier. If planted in full sun, the edge will bleach out to...

With all the rain this spring/summer, I have several that have outdone themselves, but Golden Sculpture has out done my expections. Pods on "So Sweet"
Hi All! Was wondering if anybody remembers how podset has been on their "So Sweet"? It is supposed to be fertile but I don't recall from my garden if it ever set pods or not. I found about 5 or six streaky eyes and divided it out. Posted a pic on the HL forum and nobody can remember it having very m...
