Re: Let's take a virtual tour of our gardens

Ann , Were you on the forum when we had the threads about dressing in vole suits to rob Hank & Jim's garden & the other one about the albomarginata lookalike. I can't believe it I can't remember its name! I keep wanting to say shade fanfare but that's not right . Somebody save me! What was that name...

Re: Let's take a virtual tour of our gardens

Hi Pia,
I don't know about the nasteurtum quote, but I think of you and the rest of the forum regulars all the time.
Does anybody talk about anything else on the forum now? Everytime I peek in all I see are pictures of the day kind of thing.

Re: Let's take a virtual tour of our gardens

Hi Ann I hope I'll feel like gardening this spring but so far I don't feel like doing much. I'm hoping to get to come to the Hallsons gathering this year though. Sorry about your snow. We've only had 1 maybe 6 inch snow storm & nothing else so far. Last year we had snow coverage almost all winter lo...

Re: Let's take a virtual tour of our gardens

Hi everybody! I was searching for pineapple upside down cake and came across this real old post. I can't believe I never answered. We had a lot of computer issues over the past few years so I just wasn't able to get on the forum again. Sure missed everybody though. Now I have a smartphone I can acce...

Re: Pic of the Day--Guardian Angel

My Guardian Angel has the same coloring as Hanks all season long, and is probably 4 feet wide. It is the most beautiful hosta I have so I bought a second 1 to plant someplace else. I had read about it fading and mine never did so I wondered about that. I just assumed it was happy now because I had m...

Re: hosta spray paint

Yes Laura, I can hardly wait to get this baby into the garden! It's supposed to be a girl, so I hope she'll want to help more than her daddy. All he remembers is the time I turned around with a rosebush in my hand, not knowing he was behind me & scratched his neck. Oh you would have thought I'd slic...

hosta spray paint

Hi everybody! I'm BAAAAAAK! I noticed on the Walmart shelf there is a Krylon spray paint called "Hosta Leaf" Isn't that cool? It's a bland green, but still. :D Remember me talking about my son? Well, he's been living with a girl over a year now & they're going to have a baby in about a week! I'm gon...

Atlantis

I saw one of these at a nursery & passed since I hadn't heard of it before. When I looked it up I wished I'd bought it, but the ones I saw all had white edges, not yellow as the Hosta Encyclopedia & Hosta Library show. Does anyone know if they have white edges when young maybe, or were they just ano...

I've been away a long time, but..

I noticed Chris is advertising other hosta sellers at the top of the page now. So I checked out the one called Buy Perennials which said they had unusual hostas. Wow, I was really surprized to see the usual suspects like Sum & Substance, Wide Brim, Striptease & others with price tags of hundreds of ...

Re: Do They Fall From the Sky??

Hi Renaldo! This year I had an awful time with slugs. Every time I put Bugetta out more & more would appear so they must think that stuff is candy! I've always used Bugetta & it controlled them so I don't know what happened this year. Every once in a while I get 10 or 15 of those great big fat ones ...

Re: Root study

Thanks Chris! Once again you amaze me with your knowledge & willingness to share with us. That's really interesting to know that the roots will grow better if divided in July & August. Now I see why some I divided late last year probably died, they didn't have enough roots left to last through the w...

Root study

Has anyone ever checked out how long it takes a hosta to grow roots after you cut them apart with a knife? I mean from the place where you sliced it. Just wondering. I never really dug one up to see.

Re: Cleaning sooty mold from hostas

Hi and welcome to the forum! Here's what you get for your trees: "Bayer Tree & Shrub Protect & Feed" in a blue bottle. Costs about $18 & I had to use 3 bottles so it's an expensive treatment, but boy does it work! I've seen bigger bottles of it a little cheaper at Lowes or Menards but I'd rather buy...

Re: What potting soil do you use?

Our city makes compost out of leaves mostly & for a long time that's what I used. The hostas seemed to thrive. Then someone here told me I shouldn't use plain compost. I don't know why. Anyone know? So I started making my own mix. I start with Expert Gardener potting mix, add perlite & peat and this...

Re: Secret Trade Received!

Mine went out today somewhere east of me! Course, if I was looking south, then west would be east of me, so who knows where it's going????? The hostas almost didn't make it into the box! Since I haven't done a secret trade for a long time I had forgotten how much my big ole yeller cat, Bubber, LOVES...
