Yes that Is my Dad, Stan. He came to Hosta College and the last two National Conventions with me. I'm hoping he'll chime in now and then.
Welcome to the Forum, Dad!

I'm going to have to look for really big tupperware pieces at garage sales or something, that sounds like a great idea.

Thanks for the encouragement! I've only had problems with the leaves cracking when I pressed them into the clay with a roller, because it makes it thin where the midrib is. These leaves are rubbed onto the mold after starting as a slab, so they are pretty much uniform thickness. It's harder with sev...

Yes Lucy I got those leaves at the Convention after the leaf show and made the mold. I don't know the cultivar but thought the shape would be really nice.
I think a vase would be the ideal use for that one.

Some are faster than others. I have this going on with different germinations speeds within the same chamber. I have from 8-16 different types in one chamber.
I can't say it's any different than prior years.

pottery

I make pottery, and I have donated one for the hosta seed auction/fundraiser to support Hallson's forms. It will run for 2 weeks. If you want to see more pictures or bid, go to the Hosta section, under seed exchange.

I made up a presentation about this for Hiram College Alumni science day last year. I can post some of them if you like. I don't think my freezing /storage system is good enough, mostly because there is ice in the test tubes, therefore too much moisture when I put them in. I probably need to dry it ...

White seeds are not viable, brown or black ones may be, and the thicker the seed is at the end, the more likely you are to get germination. Unripe seeds are white so if they are all white you might have picked the pod too early, they need about 45 days after pollination. Each grain of pollen can pot...

Read through the hosta seed exchange too, there is a lot of advice on growing the seedlings which is more important than crossing. The main thing with the crosses is to protect the flowers from bees, and to do your thing first thing in the morning. I cover the scapes I intend to cross wit hthe plast...

Hello! Wish List: Three Sisters, mine rotted. Lakeside Meter Maid Mount Tom 2015: I have been buying new Hostas regularly since I made this list and may not have time to update this list. I stopped keeping a list about that time. I looked at Hallson's to see what Chris sells that I do not have Halls...

My best streakers so far are from Katails - Whoopee, I probably have 6 or 7 decent streaked babies from that. There were about 4 lethal whites and 1 solid green. Katails's Galaxy I got only one to germinate but it is very nice and growing strong. Her "Kent's streaky seedling has germinated two tiny ...
