Pic of the Day--Garden tour 7

Hi All--Here are the last 3 photos of what we call the front garden. They are from the top of the bed, going from right to left if you were to look at one of the photos I used in Garden tour 3. The retaining wall you see in the 1st photo runs behind our neighbor's garage.

Linda--Glad I could help out. :D I just spent 2+ hours with my big snow blower followed by another 45 minutes of spreading salted sand on our driveway. We had freezing rain followed by 5-6 inches of snow. You can imagine what it was like in looking at the 1st photo. That is all part of the price we ...

Hi--I've mentioned before that our home is located on a bluff side on the Mississippi River valley. The 1st photo was taken in mid May from a point several hundred yards out in the river. In the center of the photo you can see the angled driveway that starts up the bluff side and then turns and goes...

Hi All--Here are 3 more photos taken in our front garden. They are just above the area that I showed yesterday. I think I was probably standing in the same spot for all 3 photos and just swung the camera from left to right.

Thanks, Dale. When I have been deciding what and where to plant, I have tried to end up with an informal look. Don't ask me what I mean by "informal". I have avoided straight lines, rows, etc. Mixing the textures and colors has been fun to work out but I have a hard time explaining to someone ...

Charla--Yep, that is monarda but I don't know which variety it is. And yep, it does spread but not too badly so we can fairly easily control it by weeding it out. The colors make it worth while. That spot is one of the sunnier places in our garden, getting maybe 5-6 hours of direct mid-day sun.

Hi--Yesterday I showed 3 photos of the front garden, taken in different seasons in 2002 and 2003. Today, the 1st photo is of the same area, taken in late June of 2007. There are some changes from the earlier years. The next 2 photos are showing closer images of the middle areas of the front garden. ...

HI--When I bought it, the house had been here for 19 years. I don't know what might have been done when the home was constructed. I am sure that some soil was brought in to fill in the narrow strip on the outside edge of our driveway. When I moved in and then decide to plant that strip with perennia...

Hi--Here are three photo of what could be thought of as our front yard. It is on the opposite side of our driveway from the scenes I showed of the narrow strip of beds. The photos are a few years old but they do show the area in the spring, summer, and fall. In the next few days I plan on showing so...

Hi--Here are a few photos of the narrow strip that runs along the side of our driveway. The last one just a bit of the Mississippi River shoreline. The river is close to 3 miles wide in front of our home.

Wanda--The damage that was on our shared driveway was off our property, in front of a neighbors house that is off to the left of the photo scene. A mile or so north of us there were two homes washed off the hillside.

Hi All--For the next month or so I am going to be showing photos of plant groupings or wider shots of our garden beds, as opposed to individual hosta varieties. Because I have done this tour of our garden before, some of you will probably decide to just hit the delete button when you see the subject...

Hi--I have about 6 weeks worth of individual varieties before I get to the end of my list. I had planned to then do another POTD set of photos of our beds but, this seems like a good time of the year to show how things look from a wide angle. So, I'll start that up in tomorrow's POTD.
