Dave Chopko has a yellow-margined kikutii that Stephen lusts after. Dave got it from Barry Yinger. I don't know if it's ever been offered at auction.
We also have Hyuga Urajiro and Mikawa-no-yuki. Lots of confusion in these forms.

Re: Hosta of the Day #2 - kikutii (Hyuga Giboshi)
Pieter, I have to say yours is unlike any kikutii I have ever seen. How did you confirm the species ID on the seed source? Were there other species/hybrids in the area? Ed, our main kikutii is the form with longer leaves and no ripples. Just starting to bloom. We got it from Maria Plater-Zyberk, who...

Re: Idiots in the Dark Total Solar Eclipse, August 21, 201
Very cool. Did you swap email addresses with Marie so she could send you telescope pics? (And did you get a look through the scope during totality?) A friend of mine was also in WY, having driven up from Denver. We're definitely planning on making the trip for the 2024 eclipse. The path of totality ...

Seems like a forgotten (and fairly forgettable) hybrid. I note that one comment compares it favorably to Regal Rhubarb. Do you see much difference?

Re: Some flowers that are a little bit different.
Ed, you should check out the styles on Peacock Strut. The last centimeter is purple, at least on blooms I saw this year. (Sadly, no pollen for use in hybridizing!) I wish I had gotten a picture, but DH cut the scapes off when it was almost finished blooming. The "bloom" picture in the hosta library ...

Re: Hosta of the Day - Sparkling Burgundy
I got one in a Hallson's secret swap back when we all did those. Clean, thankfully. It does have pretty blooms, although "burgundy" is quite a stretch.

It's a pity that there are a lot of interesting hosta coming out now with these problematic "recumbent" scapes. Still, I'm looking forward to seeing this one grow up.

Re: Hosta of the Day #2 - Blackfoot
Maria (Plater-Zyberk) thought that the base of the scapes was black, hence the name. Not many people have this, although I think Tony Avent might have sold it for a year or so. Ours is back in a hospital pen after we planted it in too dry a location, but it's prominently sited for next year's tour. ...

I guess my 2nd plant (from LOTG) is a dud, too. Outer petals just won't un-stick, even with some massaging. Buds are pretty, though.

Re: FAQ - List of infected or possibly infected plants
That's what I told her. I sent her here to see some history of the epidemic. As to education: preaching to the choir here! I still can't believe that the AHS website's "brochure" on HVX is a lame summary of a particular research project. As the world's largest hosta society, they should be the be-al...

Bumping an ancient post, as this is still such a problem. Someone was asking if there was "a list."

You should try a wider group to get an answer. https://www.facebook.com/groups/2248595978/ (and follow the guidance of the "pinned" post at the top) You have to get permission to post. There is also some Hosta ID Facebook group, but I don't participate there. The regular AHS group is exhausting enou...

Or is this a vole attack?
Does (did) the base of that eye look eaten away or rotten away? If rotten you can usually smell it. If voles got it you won't find any roots or crown left.

Re: Any idea of ID of suble patterned green hosta?
Intriguing. Here's where I can make use of my secret database of hosta leaf show classifications, that lets me search by Section/Class designations. In this case, looking at the Giant, Large, and Medium hosta leaves within class 6b, described as "Green or blue margined, with green or blue center (di...

Re: Hosta Identification help
Your hosta is cerainly not Royal Flush. Maybe the other garden has it labeled wrong? Royal Flush has a broad gold margin, heavily corrugated (textured) leaves, and no white backs. Do you know about the Hosta Library? http://www.hostalibrary.org Use it to compare authentic pictures to any names that ...
