Favorite canna

Everything you read about Australia is true! The leaves are glossy and dark but an added bonus is what happens when the sun shines just right - it turns blood red :P

It's just fabulous, isn't it! I bought one a couple of weeks ago and will have to get a photo up soon.

Wow, I was surprised to see this post because I have Orange Man. Got it last summer and couldn't surf out much info or any description on it. Brenda, mine shows none of the characteristics you listed! Weird, huh? If this isn't OM then it's a vigorous growing mystery - and it bounced back like a cham...

Oh, that's pretty! Nice to see another nicely colored green heuchera. So true - I'm learning many of these heucheras, especially the lighter ones, go through seasonal color changes.

I love this one, too! Mine was new last year and about half it's original size from the hard freeze. I'll try to get a photo of the little survivor later today.

Pia and Wanda, thank you. I'm negligent in checking the crown for soft areas and used scissors that qualify as dull. With 23 hostas at the mush level X an average of 9 eyes apiece = I need to get back out there. Or take up golf and ignore them. Good luck to everyone out there!

Freeze/crown rot

I did another round of clean up today, trying to take the wait and see approach for each hosta as to the extent of the freeze damage. One thing I notice is the hostas are slower to unfurl - a bad thing, I guess from the injured leaf tissue? My hope that some of the inner leaves were protected is pre...

Renaldo, as a hosta freeze victim myself, I can't help but wonder about the mud trauma. I'll be watching to read about the incident when you're up to it! :???:

You're not alone, Jan  it's heartbreaking. I have various degrees of freeze damage and yesterday I cut down 13 mushy eyes on an El Nino - that really got me.

Charla, I didn't see any bugs but I'm very concerned about crown rot, too. What are you spraying with?

Hey, whatever it takes to keep it safe, Mal! Yours is gorgeous, mine will at best probably have frost damage and some warping. I'm really tempted to buy another one and keep it in a pot!

Oh, please, no more! I uncovered my hostas after 7 days to trim off the worst, then it rained and I got a second application of HAIL - only pea size this time and lasting for a couple of minutes. Wanda, I think my psyche is suffering a huge crack![/i]

Ditto for me, Wanda, I want to see photos and am ready to become a convert! It's hard enough to wait out all those months without hostas but to know they'll be set back a year or two?? just bums me out. Charla, you're right - we could get another round, we're a long way from 'safe'. I also am seeing...
