Re: H. 'Robin Hood'
I had a pretty nice Robin Hood, registered in 2000 by Jim Schwarz. I was smitten with the plant in his garden the first time I saw it. I love those subtle ones too. Mine, unfortunately, fell prey to a combination of drought and voles that cost me a few plants a couple years ago.

Re: Give me Liberty or......
http://i62.tinypic.com/20jpa8m.jpg Here's my 10 year old 'Liberty' unfurling last summer. Once it's all the way out it covers 'The Razor's Edge' in front of it, and blocks any view of the ground. Definitely a favorite in my garden, and even non-hosta people notice it right away as something special.

Re: Idiots Hana Mana Hawaii Episode 9
Pia, on that page, you are seeing the 'tourist' Hawaii. I'm pretty sure that a lot of people go there and never leave their beach-side hotel rooms. The Idiots mode of travel would not allow that!
Jim, thank you for those luscious shots of that valley. Amazing.

Glad you are at last feeling well enough to enjoy cutting wood! This reminds me of my dad. He was out there in the worst of weather, cutting wood for the furnace. He cut wood all his life, starting as a young boy working with his dad. He used to talk about taking a skid out on the river to the big i...

Re: Happy New Year!
Chris, I understand that search for the right combination of things to ease the pain. I'm so glad you finally found some relief!!! It's amazing how much better you feel when you get a pain issue resolved. It's been a challenging year in my life too. I lost many seedlings over the winter of 2013/14, ...

Re: Three more of our intros are going into TC
Congratulations, Chris and Brian! I'm glad that you found someone to work with on these. My little Radiant Star has suffered a few indignities over the last few years, but it's hanging in there and I'm hopeful that it will take off this year.

Re: The weirdest summer ever
Our weather year here was fairly uneventful. It took some time to warm up this spring, and in my area crop planting was delayed by temperatures and rainfall. Then we had a very nice summer, not too hot, with adequate rains. One of my friends and I were also talking about a 'Camelot' summer. Funny ho...

Hard to believe he's been gone a year already. I still picture him enjoying his liliums and squirrels. Glad to hear that Joy is doing okay. Thanks for checking in with her, Kathleen.

Re: Hosta talk on the border
Yes, Pia, it is hard to grow up! On my one trip to Europe (14 years ago!) I had my passport on me whenever we went out of Germany, but was never asked to show it. Carol, I need to renew my now-expired passport and get one for John so we can go to Mexico this winter. It is so much more expensive now ...

Re: Garden pics from a rainy summer
Your gardens have established quickly! It all looks very nice. The rain shut off here the first of July, and things were drying up. The grass was crispy and brown. We got 3/4" on Thursday, and another 1" yesterday, and the grass greened up immediately.

So sorry for you loss, Kathleen. I loved your story about how she came up with your screen name. I lost an old friend and classmate this summer, too. She married a friend of my husband's, and we crossed paths over the years. Her kids were in our 4-H club, we did craft shows together, would run into ...

It's pretty ridiculous that you are getting the heat and we just tied for the coolest July on record. Today I have the windows open and there's a great breeze blowing through the house.
