Re: Idiots On Shore Ep 3 Snorkeling Roatan 2018

Lovely. When we're in Curaçao I'm sure I spend more time with my face in the water than I do with my face in a cocktail :o Looks like Roatan's reefs have been safe from the bleaching that has hit other Caribbean climates. Your pics make me want to post some of my own, but you're so much better at th...

Re: Idiots On Shore Roatan 2018 Ep 2 Holy Saturday

Thanks again for sharing, Jim. As much as I want to explore the world, there is a certain sensibility to taking these restful vacations to the same place each year, as we now seem to be doing with Curaçao. We already know the island's vibe, so that (once we leave behind the energy of shopping for a ...

Re: What is Your Weather Like?

After a lovely weekend with temps around 60°, this morning we have low 30s with a dusting of snow! A co-worker, 30 miles north of here, had 5" of slushy stuff. At least this means that it's not a lot of precipitation. It's a lot to ask for, but we really need two weeks with <¼" of rainfall so we can...

Re: Snow!!

Don't even talk to us folks on the east coast. Back-to-back-to-back nor'easter-ish system in March. All our snow was finally gone yesterday. We even had to do our meadow burn with some patches of snow on it (and then it snowed on top of the ashes). The only upside to this is that a moist, delayed sp...

Re: Hybridizer or Plant Breeder??

I think hybridizer is better. That doesn't capture the folks who mostly create new plants by searching for sports, though.

Nice shots. Any idea what #s 17 and 18 (after Helianthus annus) are? Were you in Area 51?

AHS Convention registration now open! [edit]

Hello again, folks. We've been adding juicy details (literally: now showing the full meal plan) to the convention website , and should be launching the registration process this weekend. You may need to refresh your browser (CTFL/F5 on Windows) to be sure you're seeing the latest info. As an incenti...

Re: Idiots WalkinBeauty Ep7 Beauty in Light... Shapes.. Text

I love the "texture" photos and always try to take a few on trips, which I can use as desktop wallpaper. Here are a few favorites. Sorry if it looks like a travelogue brag, but I take the same kinds of pictures in my own garden or at Longwood. I took some in Utah as well; one I could crib from Faceb...

Re: Hosta FAQ at DVHS website

I recently updated the format of the FAQs to show only the questions (and then you click to get answers). There's also a page for the basics of seed-starting.

Thanks to Chris for his help with the HVX section.

Re: Idiots Walk in Beauty Ep 1 Reflections on Beauty

Jim, that would be lovely. After next year's AHS convention I hope we can do more travel. As it happens, I'll be in Minneapolis (first time there) for all of 330 minutes later this month. Flying in, making a pitch to the AHS board, and flying back. Cheapo (Spirit) flight; we'll see if it's worth it....

Re: Idiots Walk in Beauty Ep 1 Reflections on Beauty

Thanks, Jim, for posting the whole prayer. A portion of it was set by composer Gregg Smith as a round; we sang it in our last concert. I can't find a great performance of it on YouTube (too many distracting live performances), but here's one that has a decent mood. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0...

Re: Bruce Banyai died!

His wife, Lois, sent me a note this morning, not knowing I had already posted the news. It was a sudden heart attack, just days before his 65th birthday. Far too young. Bruce was one of the first hosta people we knew. A former president of the Delaware Valley Hosta Society. He was so looking forware...

Hosta FAQ at DVHS website

Hello, friends. This has been shared with the AHS Facebook group, but there are other eyes on here and the forum format is better for feedback. In my ongoing attempt to compile a website about hostas geared toward helping newbies and near-experts alike, I have added a set of FAQ pages to our local s...

Re: Blue flower project

A worthy project. Good luck. The bluest flowers in our garden are Oshima Silk and Nightlife (another Invincible seedling). Bonus that the latter is lightly fragrant.
