Help!
I couldn't figure out why I haven't been getting notified of new messages being posted, etc. Then it hit me, my email address has changed. I tried to locate where to change that information but couldn't. So, how do I change my email address here? MM

Linda,
Ann Kulpa was huge in my garden this year. She makes an impressive mound. All the hostas were huge here this past year with all the rains. It was great! - MM

Re: AHS Members - Don't Forget to Vote!
Linda Lou, Who was your top pick this year :?: Inquiring minds want to know :!: I think mine was H 'Ann Kulpa' maybe. She was an absolute perfect lady in my garden. A knock-out, gorgeous plant all season long. She never missed a beat. :D I should try to find a picture. If someone would organize and ...

Re: AHS Members - Don't Forget to Vote!
I voted several weeks ago!!! I vote every year. Sometimes I can't remember if I've all ready voted or not. I wish there was a way to look that up. Like if you try to vote again, big flashing lights would come on with a posting saying, "Thanx! but you all ready voted this year. Please come again, ne...

Re: How to get new sport to marketplace?
Jim The first edition of 2011 "The Hosta Journal" is the spring edition. Since our weather shows no signs or symptoms of allowing any thought of spring arriving, who knows when THJ will arrive. That has always been a problem with the magazine. You never knew when it was suppose to show up. However, ...

Hosta 'Pearl Buttons'
The Russ o'Hara Hosta Society is working on a potential project for the Des Moines IA Botanical Center. The organizer is searching for Russ' introduction 'Pearl Buttons'. There a few others he needs also: Spit Shine, Green Lantern, Claire DeLune, & Elizabeth Levy. If you have these O'Hara plants and...

Re: Too much shade- lack of colors
Thy - I was at a garden consultant class thing recently. This really nice gal was speaking and she is a gardener but more vegetables, containers maybe. She is university staff but a good / interesting speaker. Well she kept saying "hostas love shade". Then went into a discussion about the same sort ...

Re: Sad News
Reldon - Thank you for sharing sad news. I liked Gary right away when we met. It was an honor to know such a fine man. I enjoyed visiting with him at your party, Josh's ice cream hosta social, and at that Master Gardener event in Cedar Rapids (second picture) this year. He kept me company that day i...

Re: Knock me over with a feather!
Lots of hostas are showing signs / symptoms of all sorts of ulginess here. The continually wet weather and then horrid heat and humidity are not conducive to healthy hosta plants. Remember how beautiful and fresh and healthy looking they were before the heat hit. I have stuff on plants all over the ...

Re: Sum and Substance / Gunthers Prize
Joan I heard a rumor once upon a time that Jim Schwartz of Jim's Hostas was buying up all the os Gunther Prize plants. I wonder what happened to the one that was in Stark Gardens. Maybe Jim got it too! I know Jim had a really awesome, very large GP at a convention where he was vending a couple years...

Re: Sum and Substance / Gunthers Prize
My 'Gunther's Prize' reverted to some S&S prodigy / huge shiny dark green leaves with bright yellow 1/2" margins. One eye remained 'Gunther's Prize'. It's in its own pot for now. I butchered it trying to separate it from the other eyes this spring. :bawl: Finally seems to have one very small ...

Re: Hallson gathering group photo
What FUN :!: Just think, I could have been there too if only Reldon didn't think I talk too much and had let me tag along with him. :( Maybe next year I'll promise to duct tape my mouth shut and beg unmercifully to go along until someone has to say, "Yes! you can go along." But truly, Reldon ...

Re: Wierd 50/50 Leaf off Allan P. McConnell
Matt - I believe there must be some basal tissue present before hostas will reproduce themselves either in a glass of water or in the tc lab. However, that being said, there are always exceptions to the rule. While some plants certainly develop from leaf or stem cuttings, hostas do not normally do s...

Re: Wierd 50/50 Leaf off Allan P. McConnell
Allan P. Mc Connell is known to throw a few 'sporty' looking leaves every now and then. One leaf that is different, is not a 'sport' though. It's just a mutation that may or may not return next growing season. I actually have a sport of APMCC that is driving me nuts. It was 2 or 3 eyes that were obv...

Wow  You are the LUCKY ONE!!! :!: What an awesome baby and growing so full and quickly. :D Your plant is unique which is the #1 quality needed when considering registering a new plant. Always ask, is this plant unique or is there another one or more out there that look just like it :?: Also it ...

OMG :!: What a fun party today. :bd: Reldon is the best host and his zippy meatballs were well, delicious. :P All the food was wonderful, especially the Carrot Cake from the Cheese Cake Factory. It was heavenly. I of course, ate my desert first. You never know when some some disaster might happen an...
