Re: Hosta 'Rainbow's End'

Rainbow's End shouldn't get as big as Hanky Panky which gets to be a pretty large plant here. Rainbow's End is a sport of Obsession with a light colored center. Obsession has stayed a small/medium sized plant here, but other gardens I've seen it in Obsession has been a medium sized plant (about 24"...

Re: Propagating/dividing Patent Plants?

Hi, What is everyone thoughts on the rules of dividing/sharing patent plants? How many know nothing about "the rules/laws"? (no pun intended, so please answere) :D  :-? :D Is a patent only effective if it has been granted? Thanks, Rick We had this discussion some time ago as well. It is illeg...

Re: Late Emerging Hostas

While there are some plants that are every year consistently earlier then the others, I don't have a plant that is late every year. I have noticed that plants in pots are earlier up then those in the groud, and that plants in the sun are emerging earlier then others, I think this is a every importan...

Re: Any Natural Slug Control Work?

I have a small garden, so I know this isn't possible for many of the people active on this forum... I just go out hunting at night, everytime it rains the first time after a drought. There are lots of slugs all over the garden that you can eliminate. From time to time, I put a some pieces of melon, ...

Not completely correct

In Dutch/Flemish, 'i' is a short 'i' (like i in 'difference').

We pronounce it *pis-TASH*

Re: Striptease in the spring

It was very attractive. The other hostas marked as Striptease looked more like Kiwi Full Monty. I wasn't brave enough to get either of them, but I might and just watch them. I don't trust anyone but you and the Boyz when it comes to HVX free hostas. Kas I would say just buy and test it on HVX with ...

Re: Best hostas for pots???

Virtually all my hosta are in containers.
Except some mini-hosta that don't seem to like a soil that is very wet, all of my containers are in a water tray. This way, a lot of them take 'full sun' with grace

Re: Young hostas --- is more sun good for 'em?

I read somewhere recently that more sunlight will get younger hostas off to a quicker start. Is this true? I'm expecting a lot of new plants this spring and am trying to decide where to place them. Should I put them on the east side where they'll get some direct sun most of the morning? Thanks for ...

At least I have some kind of excuse for my spelling mistakes because I'm not native English... :bd: But even that doesn't give me the right not trying to do my best. We've got exactly the same problem in my native language (Dutch)... I don't think the complexity of the rules (Dutch)is not an excuse ...

Re: Iron Phosphate Slug Baits - Warning!

Liselotte, I don't use any chemical products at all. Everytime it rains, I go out at night (1-2h after dusk) with a torchlight (I use a head torch light nowadays - so I have both hands free) I just pick up every single slug and snail I cross and learn them some laws of physics (inertia to be more sp...

Some of the plants that have been getting lots of sun are preparing dormancy, but most other still look OK.

Special notice to all of my Halcyon descendants : they look all pristine up to now... event hose that took plenty of sun all year long

Re: Which are holding up well - which are going down early?

With our milder climate (both winter and summer), plants are not only emerging earlier, but they keep on going quite long : most of my hosta are still looking really good (except for the minor slug and vine weevil damage, and the flower stalks that start to be a bit messy) I expect them to keep on g...

Well, a lot of work today. I will be digging out a 5 year old grape (Rembrant)... the grapes don't have a good taste... so I will be replacing it by another grape, with tastier grapes I'm also adding a thornfree blackberry , a white grape and a fig (I will aslo construct a stainless wire system to l...
