Lemon Angel Custard Dessert
My newspaper just put out a call for recipes for Spring Dishes to publish in a future issue. I may send this one in, but thought I'd share it with you first. It's my mother's recipe and a family favorite. Very light and easy, yet looks fancy. I frequently garnish it with real flowers (pansies, trili...

Hi Jo. There are lots of online 'dog breed selectors' that you can try out, too. You might want to try a bunch of them to see which breeds consistantly show up for you. Here are a few links, and for more just Google 'dog breed selector'. http://animal.discovery.com/guides/dogs/selector/selector.jsp ...

Sorry, Ginger, I didn't know you didn't sew. No problem, really. A regular shower curtain is 72"x72" so let's use that as the size you'll want. It really just needs to be a bit wider than the tub. You can get extra wide fabric (most often sold as quilt backing) or use a full size bed sheet and cut i...

I do it all the time, Ginger. Buy one of the clear or white plastic/vinyl liners and hang that to fall inside the tub. Hang your fabric one to fall outside the tub on the same rings. You don't see the plastic and the fabric stays dry. Works like a charm, looks great, and gives the cat a neat place t...

Gawd, they look distorted! :o :o I've never been a ruffle person...don't like 'em on much of anything. Daylilies, Iris, Hosta, clothes, curtains, nothing. Nope, you can have 'em. I'l take sleek and classic, stream-lined and smooth every time. Your 'chicken fat' is much too frilly for this ol' ...

Way back when my sweet little Sheltie was going through puberty, she tried to get control of the bed, too, Annie. She was allowed on the bed for an hour or so while I read or watched TV before turning out the light. Then she was told to get off, which she did with no grumbling. I never thought there...

Thanks all. I think I'll wait until the Oliver book comes out and then compare the two of them side by side. Thanks for the advance notice of the new book, Rosemarie! Chris, thanks for the offer. That sounds great and I may just take you up on it at a later date. :D Jeanne, the library is a w...

So sorry to hear of the break-in, Zack. I'll never understand people who ruin things just because they can. Life can seem so incredibly unfair at times, can't it? But don't let them dim your determination to get your studio and new venture up and running. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the...

Have you considered doing a few true botanical-type studies? You know, a mature leaf and flower with the name of the cultivar down at the bottom...that type of thing? Like Anne Pratt did with ferns? I'd buy those in a heartbeat and take something down to hang it! I come from a long line of self-supp...

My kid and I were talking about clicker training a while ago. She covers various training methods in one of her classes and said the way she teaches her students about clicker training is to divide them into pairs, one is the horse, one is the trainer. She tells the trainer what to teach the 'horse'...

What's your favorite...?
I've been a subscriber to Horticulture Magazine since 1988 (and have scattered issues going back to 1977), am a charter subscriber to both Fine Gardening and Garden Gate, and have started and stopped subscriptions to various other garden publications over the years. The February issue of Horticultur...

I was wondering about the bias angle, too, Chris. At best, it could be a great book (after all, Mark Zilis introduces and sells hosta and he stayed fairly impartial to my knowledge). At worst, it could just be a very pricey Terra Nova catalog. I heard one report that it actually had more heucherella...

Heuchera book
Heucheras and Heucherellas: Coral Bells and Foamy Bells by Dan Heims and Grahame Ware, Timber Press, 2005 Does anyone have this book, and if so, what do you think of it? Is it worth owning? I know Dan Heims is THE heuchera guru and there is a pretty good review of the book in the new issue of Hortic...
