Re: Date for the Hallson Summer Get Together!

Hi Denise, I really don't know much about the campgrounds around here. I know some are only open for race weekends, but a few operate all summer. You might try searching online and calling, and if you want me to check one out just let me know. The B&Bs, I think, are a really good choice. There is t...

Re: Date for the Hallson Summer Get Together!

Any recommendations on places to stay nearby? Anyone stay at the Claddagh B & B??? We stayed at the Claddagh last year. It was very nice, and VERY quiet! The owners daughter evidently was there over night, but we never saw her. We were the only guests for most of the time, so had the whole house to...

Wade and Gatton has had them every time I have been there. (Have not been since last summer, tho.) No idea of the price.

Re: Must see hosta/plant sights on our journey

I second (or third) Wade and Gatton, but be aware that you could spend days there! They have lots of display gardens and lots of hoop houses! If you call ahead, you may even be able to meet Van Wade. I love that place! It was my first trip to a real hosta nursery, and I was on overload for 2 days!

Deer with good taste

 Last year was the first we heard of deer in the area. They only ate 2 Sally and Bobs last year.

This year, there are tracks to the middle of my bed. Only a few leaves eaten....Sally and Bob again...AND....in a separate bed, EVERY...SINGLE...LEAF... of my new Blue Lightning! :???: :x

Re: Winter Sowing Hosta Seeds

I usually plant the seed in 6 packs or cups. These go into the trays, (put holes in the cups)then bottom watering is easy. Also know that seed from your 3 hostas will most likely come out some shade of green. Hostas do not come true from seed. Almost no chance of varigation. If you want something di...

Joan, you had to say it...and sure enough we got frost last night! I did not cover, but it looks like the trees served us well. The side lot looks frosty, but not a bit where the hostas are.

Yes, I really do...a green seedling that I did not want, but that looked very nice. The fish, however, are pulling it apart.

Re: Lakeside Elfin Fire seedlings still going strong

O Wow! I hope mine blooms for me and produces seed. Do you have any idea who the father is? No, these were open pollinated. Warning, tho. I have planted many, many LEF seeds. Only a few ever make it this far. Many are fatal white. The best seeds come from stalks that are green and white striped. Th...

Re: What Trees do You Prefer

Beautiful pic, nut house! I do like the look of birch, but know very little about them. I have had a redbud for years, and it does well. Guess I will leave the dogwoods to the front yard, if they cause problems. Thanks!

Re: What Trees do You Prefer

We had to take down a huge old maple last year. I am thinking of replacing it with several smaller trees...maybe redbud and dogwood. Has anyone had problems with these? We will also be losing a huge mulberry from the back of our lot. No big lose as trees go, but it will be a lot sunnier back there. ...
