Wow...too cool!!!

question: is it better to put a sport in the ground or in a pot. I have one I'm hoping makes it thru the summer. It's currently in a pot and doesn't seem to be thriving. Any advice?

Ohhh, I feel your pain. 2 years ago the deer ate every hosta in my yard...ouch! :x The deer would actually sleep in the yard, with their babies, and get up in the middle of the night a snack on the hosta. Last year we started a deer fence and sprayed with liquid fence and that helped alot. Since the...

Ouch!! Have you tried Liquid Fence? It's cheaper and it seems to work pretty well. I was told that you don't even need to mix it as strong as recommended for it to work. I have also heard that if you mix Wilt Proof with the liquid fence, it stays on much longer. Just a thought.

Mud, thanks for your interest in the garden. I know it took quite a beating during the last freeze, but I think it'll be OK once the leaves are all the way out. If not...oh well, not much I can do about it. Here are a few pics from last year while we wait for this years emergence. http://img.photobu...

compost question

I just received a truck load of composted horse manure. :D I would like to use it as a top dressing...or mulch. Is it OK to use it that way? :-? I wasn't sure if that would be too much nitrogen but I seem to remember somewhere that you can mulch with compost. Any help you can provide will be much ap...

George, Although I was at hosta college I didn't take your class. I wish I had though. I think it was closed by the time I registered. :( I just want you to know that everybody appreciates the efforts the teachers put into preparing for the class...especially knowing that you don't get compensated. ...

JGH, I was wondering about your Lakeside Black Satin. Mine looks very much like yours with the same yellowing between the veins. The yellowing didn't show up until the fall. When was your picture taken? I was wondering if yours has nematodes. I didn't test mine so I wasn't sure.

Thanks, poppi

I would agree that it is possible. :( I also wonder that if they chomp one that has nematodes...can they spread the bugger to another hosta :-? . I'm thinking they can but it may not be likely.

Hi everyone. I'm just found out about this site and thought I'd check it out. I'll have to do bit of browsing to learn how to use it, but I'll get there. My husband and I have a large yard in Ohio that had almost no landscaping when we moved in, so we've been putting in alot of new flower beds. Sinc...
