And ... as always ... too good to be true!
Of course there is that secret laboratory in Area 51 where it is said that aliens are assisting a group of hosta enthusiasts to ... (REST OF MESSAGE CENSORED DUE TO HOMELAND SECURITY PROTOCOL)
Sigh!

Quick, Jamie! Get a leaf off to be analyzed. I think you might be harboring the dreaded hostapox. (Not to be confused with cowpox or chickenpox...or even salamanderpox.) Shame, shame on you, Homer, for sending that to Jamie!!!

Jamie,
I would be concerned about the "chicken pox" version of HVX on that one. It's been hitting some of the middle America nurseries hard but they don't seem to want to do anything about it.
At the very least I would isolate it away from your other plants and clean your tools with calamine lotion before and after using them.
Maybe you'll be lucky and it will simply be a unique pattern... like Xanadu Paisley! Have you named it and when will it be available?
Sue

Oh, Linda, there you go overreacting again. I told you and Jamie both that the Hosta would be just fine if you applied a daily poultice of Calamine lotion and didn't scratch the spots. At least it is good to see that the spots have not settled out to the edges, though. I hate it when my spotted breeders stabilize into one of those ordinary red marginated hostas.
Now look at what happened to Jamie . . . I think he's developed a full blown case of hosta fever! The only cure for that is a long shopping spree at the regional nurseries and a trip to a hosta convention. He may never be the same again, but we were pretty sure he was a carrier long before he displayed these symptoms.
By the way, the mother plant for the tester that Jamie showed above is called H. 'Spotted Salamander'.
Strangely enough, I found this one long before I knew to add the glow stick juice to the formula. That is why the red is not quite as intense.

All this is great fun...but sure wish I could get my hosta to email me when they need water or additional nutrients...like certain altered tobacco plants can.
HONEST TO GOD! Look it up!
They inserted some jellyfish (?) genes to make the plants biolumenescent and have sensors in the fields...when the plants need water or food they emit light and sensors pick it up and send a message to the scientist!
I may have some slight details wrong...I try really hard not to dwell on such “advancements” since they scare the hell out of me!

Ah, Jamie???? Is Wanda trying to tell you that you need 'watering'???? I think from the color of those spots that you'd better stay away from the Red Bull and look for something a bit more soothing. Let's see, green cancels out red, so maybe a margarita?
Homer, I'm sorry I over-reacted, and I see that I was wrong. It IS Salamanderpox. I forgot that it wasn't serious, but it looks to me like Jamie forgot about not scratching the spots.

I hadn't thought of the trip to Disneyland in so long, Viktoria. It must say, it's something I haven't missed in the least.
Nancy...hope you didn't start selling your firstborn to buy the Holy Grail hosta.
Jamie...okay, so maybe you'd better start using green tea poultices????
Janey, I don't seem to be able to find my hip waders, and my brother lives too far away for me to borrow his scuba gear. I'm thinking perhaps a full hazmat suit might be better.
