Pic of the Day--Paul's Glory

Post by Hank Zumach »

Hi All--Paul's Glory is an excellent variety. That is an opinion shared by many hostaphiles as Paul's Glory was chosen as the AHS Hosta of the Year in 1999. Besides its very attractive appearance, it has a good growth rate and the slugs ignore it. In its two years in our Friendship Garden the plant has grown from a substantial first year size of 19x12 to 28x12 this year. That puts it at the half way point to an expected mature size of 55x25, according to Zilis.

Yours is just beautiful, but I expect no less from your garden :D My PG is doing wonderfully, and while I do not have slug problems, the cut worms love it

I agree with Pia. I have never been that impressed with this hosta (mine), although I have seen pics of it which are pretty impressive.

Hi Hank!!

I got mine from jmboyer/Janet......It's special......But it doesn't really do anything for me either, but I always thought that it was because it is in too much sun....and I still think that....I miss Janet! :(

Paul's Glory

Post by Liselotte »

In defense of Paul's Glory!

Paul's Glory arrived via overnight air carrier (Chicago - Geneva) in May 1993. Needless to say ( I'm jinxt! :bd: ) the package was lost and found after 9 days on a Friday. The plant inspection people in Geneva kindly mailed it Express mail (cost another 120$) to me.

Needless to say, some of the precious tiny TCs were in bad shape). The 24 Paul's Glory perked up and grew well. Actually the only Hosta ever to need less than 4 years to look like anything. Because of the difficult climate at our altitude (4000ft.) with a very short growing season, I have learned to live with the limits of growing many cultivars. But Paul's Glory is definitely the # ONE performer in this garden. Only Krossa Regal came close! After many years of trying there are many other large cultivars that do extremely well, but did it ever take patience and time!

You can't blame me for never wanting to be without Paul's Glory!
