Finally getting some yard work done.

Post by redcrx »

I have been out the last two days starting the Spring cleanup. Got some new fence put up to close-off my yard and try to keep the deer and rabbits out. Picked up some branches, refilled some knocked-over pots, started raking the leaves (that will take a week), found some Hellebore flowers.

Great hellebores :) We finally started working outside here too, which is weeks later than normal. Will probably be a much busier April than usual because of the delay but we are determined to stay on schedule.

Can't wait to see some flowers here - even Crocus and snowdrops will be welcome sights :)

I've not started a thing here yet. We just got back from winter in Texas, and while I would generally be way behind by this time, there is really no hurry.
My snowdrops (galanthus) just broke the ground probably the day before we got home, and haven't really opened yet. There are just tiny little signs of the spring bulbs coming up. It's so wet out there, and today it was incredibly windy. I'm hoping to start with some cleanup next week. It takes me a good two weeks (or more) to get things raked off and get my pre-emerge and fertilizer down. I don't move as fast as I used to!

A light frost outside just now, nothing we were warned about. Daffodils are blooming, they can handle the frost but my tree peonies have nice sized buds and Great Expectations have started to unfurl.. ... bit scared here.

Winter have been very mild this year and the weed have a great time

Nice hellebores. I can grow them here in the sandy soil :D In my old clay yard they grove a lot of leaves and none or hardly no flowers. I olny have 3 of them.... had to test them, but think I would like a few more :D

Cleaned up 'empty' pots of 2013 hosta seedlings that did not make it through the winter. Around 25% did not make it. The 2012 and 2011 seedlings fared better. In a way it is nice that they 'cull' themselves. Also am having to keep on the lawn mowing or I will have a pasture. You can almost see it grow. Still a bit too wet to do weeding.

Wow! Everyone showed up! Carol, Karma how are you doing? I have had some great weather for several days, then it clouded over today. But most of the rain has been missing us. I have been waiting for some orders to get here. But everything is coming up like Gangbusters!! I love this time of year!!! ( Gangbusters! An very old Radio show)

We got hit with heavy ice on the back end of a nasty wind and rain storm. I think my early hosta are going the pay the price.

Ed, oh no! Hoping that everything will be okay in your garden.

Rosemarie, just trying to keep ahead of things that are growing here!! Really enjoyed the couple days in the seventies already, working
on that farmer's tan!! Glad today is raining so I can rest up some since I have been going full blast for the last couple weeks as I have a
deadline to meet for the first of May!
