Hey Jeroen! I had seen your website awhile back before I joined the forum and thought it was cool! I like being able to talk with a hosta fan halfway around the world. How awesome is technology?!?! Question please....I love those streaky seedlings. Can you tell me how long it takes before babies start showing their true character? I have 6 trays of seedlings about a week old and they all look identical.....green....

Thanks Eastwood for the great words about my Hosta website ....I do my best and try to show people....how great hostas are....!!!
If your seedlings are streaked......you often (95%) see it strait away.....after they come above the ground...
some times the streaked leaves are coming after the first "green" leaves....but that's very unusual!!!
most of the times it showes strait away .......
here's a example....

oooh....that's not good news....I have 2 trays that are from streaked parents and 3 trays from seed I collected last year from "Frances Williams," "Abiqua Drinking Gourd" and "Olive Bailey Langdon"....and they all look exactly the same....disappointing... What is the parentage of the streaky babies you have been posting? thanks for getting back.

this depends on wich parents the seeds are coming from. If the seedpods are streaked the change of also streaked seedlings is high....
So not al seeds that come from a streaked hosta gives streaked seedlings.....the seedpods have to be streaked too...
these seedlings comes from my own 'Valley's Streaker' and gives 80 % streaked seedlings.....

Thanks, Jeroen! I bought some hosta streaked pods on ebay. They came last week, but I hadn't started them yet. They're goin' in the dirt today!!!!! Again, awesome photos on your postings and on your website. Verrrrry impressive! I looked on hostalibrary to find Valley's Streaker, but it wasn't there. The others you have there are incredible. Thanks a million for all your help.[/b]

Wow! Wow! Wow! Those are awesome seedlings! I am happy to say that 2 of my seeds sprouted some streaked seedlings! So exciting. I have my seed flats on the floor, so it is cooler. I get laughed at...laying on the floor with my magnifying glass checking out every new sprout. Oh well, laugh away....I am having a blast! Thanks for sharing all your info and photos, Jeroen.
