Hi All--Here is a shot taken from just behind our house. It looks back at the corner rock wall that was in yesterday's POTD. It shows how steep the slope is. When we first started to plant this area with perennials we were really concerned about making sure that we would not cause erosion.

Hi--I just remembered that I have this photo taken when I first moved here, showing the area from the opposite direction.

Here is another pic of the same general area, taken two years later, in 1994. By this time I had started to remove all the original forest undergrowth, etc. and make it look a bit more presentable. I had no idea that it would ever be a garden bed. I mean, you'd have to be crazy to think about trying to plant perennials in a spot like that, right?

Seeing the before pics really puts a new light on this garden for me, too. I'm thinking you must have been a little bit on the wide side of normal to start that garden, but I am so glad that you did, and that you've shared it with us.
Dreaming of summer here, with the snow blowing sideways over 1/2" of ice......

WOW!!! I agree the transformation is truly amazing. Who would have ever believed that bare ground could become a lush, beautiful garden? It's fantastic!
