I'm mostly in pots, and use soil-less potting mix.
......and as I've used dry commercial 10-10-10 fertilizer in the past, it was the liquid Alaskan Fish Fertilizer that made my hostas go "Thankyouthankyouthankyou" I'm not kidding, either.
The routine is fairly simple and quick, 1/3 cup (or 5 T) of the fish fertilizer in a 5-gallon buckets that are STRATEGICALLY PLACED AROUND THE GARDEN, and subsequently filled with water.
I use a pitcher to dip into the mother buckets, and dispense into each pot whatever seems right.
(Actually I was using the dry commercial, and my hosta buddy's hostas (in pots, too) with the fish fert.,always outgrew mine so I copied him
Aureomarginatas are pointing up now, so I've got them protected.
Fertilizer routine--and protect your aureomarginatas!!!!
