rock wool

has anyone any experience with wool rock cubes.....any thoughts on root growth using this?

Hi NW hosta, I have used them with hosta on a nutrient film set up. N.F.T.

thanks jim, i was wondering about it b/c people keep pitching it to me as the new and most valued way to get oxygen to the roots at all times, but it needs to be constantly monitered for nutrients and moisture.

The nurseries here use it a lot

Not my favorite, - difficult to give the right amount of fertilizer from the spring and ugly in the garden when you reuse the soil in the beds - but not as bad as the polysterene pills

A simple set up using nft and rock wool cubes,

4' light, 4'sections of eves trough side by side with a slight slope.Line up rockwool cubes in trough bottom.
At the lowest end of trough, a small reservoir is placed to hold pump and capture drips.
The nutrient filled reservoir contains a small submersable pump that pumps the nutrient to the high side of the trough where it slowly trickles down through the seedling filled rock cubes and spills into the reservoir .
No monitering devises ? just change the nutrient every few weeks
