White back

Post by thehostagourmet »

Leafy, that's a great looking seedling. Love the leaf shape and rippled edge, as well as the white back. Now make it turn really blue.

Or better yet, send me a piece and I'll turn it blue. :D

Looks like you and Kent are breeding some on similar lines. Very crispy.

Thanks guys :P
Tigger :P thanks for looking. I think Kent's plants are op's from Mildred Seavers seedlings ? Kent ? :P
George, I have this style in a wide range of colors and streaks
.
I have been breeding a line of seedlings where I have been crossing my best piecrusted plants and selecting those that 'pie-up' earliest, most from day one. We have all seen newbies pass on a great plant at the vendors table, seeing nothing special about it and not realizing how wonderfull it would be in year three.
That seedling is from a cross between,

Warlock' x 'Raptor'

Here is' Warlock',

Seedling

Leafy, it seems you're far enough along to use only your own seedlings in breeding. I presume 'Raptor' is yours and has white backs, maybe from H. hypoleuca or H. pycnophylla? If you really have blue and yellow versions, I'd love to see them.

Why don't you register some of these? No glib answer, really? Why not?

Lastly, why not tc a few of these, and sell them so some of us could use them in our hybridizing?

Hi George, yes 'Raptor' is one of my hybrids. sorry no hypoleucea or pyc. in the background. White backs happen fairly common.
If you really have blue and yellow versions, I'd love to see them.

And so you shall

Why don't you register some of these? No glib answer, really? Why not?

At this stage registration is not really important to me.
I probably have a thousand seedlings that would be worth registering to some. Every year I try to improve my favorites, there is always room for improvement. I have developed seedlings that some might not even recognize as hosta. I have added colour to hosta flowers never seen before. I have many surprizes that will come out of Mouldy laboratories.

Lastly, why not tc a few of these, and sell them so some of us could use them in our hybridizing?

George, I give away tons of seedlings each year to visitors.
Give me time boss ! lol I have almost finished my lab.

Here is a pic of 'Raptor' its a real monster !

So I can just pass by  No way efore I find a way to bring back a lot of your limestones too

By the way, there are a lot of new members here, why not give them a tour around your garden- I would love to see it again and am sure others will too
