You know, dear...
That big empty patio out there... its going to be too cold to use it for at least two more months... we really don't need that space...
no... seriously... I'll use screws, so I can dismantle it... it will be gone by June... what do you mean "Maybe so will I..."???

Instant Sunroom
Just sell it as a instant sunroom.
Very interesting idea.

Gone by June? I'm thinking just remove the plastic, cover it with shade cloth, and you've got a great place to enjoy the outdoors without being out in the hot sun....

Take down that wonderful structure? You can't be serious! Linda is right, shade cloth and you have an open, airy outdoor plant room.
Thanks for the much needed hosta pep talk, too. Grower, carpenter, motivational speaker - lucky lady, your wife! I'm not too familiar with Julie Andrews but I know all about martinis.

You've got it, moldy! The heat comes from leaving the patio door open - though I've learned to keep the screen shut to keep the two cats out of there. Added bonus... 4' from the patio door, where the picture is being taken from... is an airtight wood stove, so I can fire that up in the evening and supply some extra heat to the plants all night long.
During the day, we actually gain heat into the house...
thanks for all the nice comments... I've done makeshift shelters for the past few years, but I think I've hit on a pretty good design. I'll do a followup when I have it full of plants. I have a couple dozen pots to move in to warm up, then my first shipments come in after 4/15...

I saw it as an unheted shead, but now I see the stove pipe.. still think you have to make it bigger.. DW will claim a chair and a tiny table '
Know you were on limits on the patio, hall way and had no access to the master room
Othervise the design is good

Exellent JGH, if the weatherman says cool temps, leave the door open a crack
It would be fairly simple to install a temperature falling thermostat in there, hooked to a fan to pump in house heat. maybe a or 6 or 8" through-the -wall duct fan.
Mrs Mouldy would close the doors after I fell asleep thinking a bear would get in her kitchen

How fun! Now I'll have to get in that greenhouse to see the Rag Dolls from the sliding glass door windows this summer. I saw some REALLY nice gazebo screen enclosures and thought of your hot tub. The possibilities are endless. My greenhouse is full of garden goo gah's. Soon, I'll have to put some bulbs in there to cook. I'm looking SO forward to spring. I'll be over to see that new greenhouse in a couple months. Later, Love, Lisa
Have I mentioned lately that my drinking team has a hosta problem?

Sounds like another great idea. You could even make it deep enough so you can stand up in it!
jgh, I was also thinking about how much heat you would gain from that addition for the winter months.
It took me 3 years to get the sliding doors in (Saved up and bought it...DH hauled it out to the machine shed and said he'd get to it later...I finally hired someone to do it, but of course I had to save up for that too). Another 5 years to get the deck put in. Yep, had to save up for the wood, and finally got DD and DSIL to help me with it. DSIL put half the screws in, DH hasn't gotten around to finishing it yet. So...I'm thinking I'll have a long wait for the greenhouse. You're my hero, man....

We did a little add on ourselves this summer. You will soon wish it was twice the size once you start filling it up! We added this at foundation level using old patio doors. We heat with wood/corn and so just open the window and leave the door open and either add heat or take heat back into the house with ventilation fans. Work wonderfully!! YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE IT 4-3.jpg[/IMG]http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n32/ ... 0001-2.jpg[/img]http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n32/ ... 006010.jpg[/img]
