Savannah Supreme

Post by wzbt03 »

This is a very attractive hosta which looks very nice in the garden.

The stats are -
Medium Large
Savannah sport
Shiney Green leaves with white/cream streaks
Fragrant Flowers
Leaves 11 * 7

The problem with it is that it is hard to get seeds to set and the leaves lack enough substance to make it a good breeder.

I think everyone should have one though.

How long have you had it, and in how much sun? I've had mine prob. 5 yrs now, and in open, high shade. It is one of my best pod parents, and I get seed almost every year. Love the fragrance in early evening, I really never checked to see if it has passed on the fragrant genes to the streaked babies. I will have to look into that this year as I am checking out the baby blooms. Yours is beautiful!

Yours sure looks good!! :P I have one and it's somewhat streaked, but pretty faintly even on the leaves with the most streaking. Nothing like the one leaf at the front of yours. :o 8-)

Setting seeds

Good to hear that it has worked out well for you Justasam.

I was planning on breeding it with some plants with more substance this year but this will be my first year with it.
Your success makes the effort seem more worthwhile.

Hmmmm...I've had a few seed pods on mine, but no fertile seed in them.
I have several plants, some have held their streaking quite well, and some have more green than streaked foliage after 7 years in the garden. This one can get past large to huge if it's happy. I don't seem to have a single pic of Savannah Supreme, just one of the flower.

SS is one of my larger hostas and looks beautiful every year. Wonderful streaking. But have never seen viable seed from it.

BTW, I got this one several years ago in a secret trade (Thank you again Linda P-it is a beauty).
