Hostas in Pots

Post by Ginger »

I finally got a chance to get some pics of my potted hosta. I am really liking them in pots. Much more versatile this way. I can move them from sun to shade as needed, no critters other than a few munching bugs to worry about, and they look really pretty :D

Included are the 4 new ones I got from Chris on Monday.

It truly did double this year. I think putting them in pots last fall and letting them overwinter outside was just the ticket for them. I don't think they got cold enough in the ground here in OK with our warm winters. They all came back bigger and better than ever.

Bridal Veil was 3 nice eyes when Chris sent it to me as a bonus last year. It has never been in the ground. It came up with 6 eyes, and they are putting out tons of leaves. I had to up pot it and Abba a few days ago.

I know what you mean. They do look a lot alike. They are both a bit green now due to the heavy cloud cover the last 2 weeks. They have had very little sun.
Once thing I noticed having my Hosta potted and right next to each other is the abiltiy to tell the ones that share the same charecteristics (sp?). Like Bridal Veil and Abba. They are almost exactly alike except for the edges. And June and Halcyon, and so on and so on. I think I will learn more about the different kinds this way.

Hi Pia. We have some very humid days here in OK. I don't have pots under them so they will drain well during all this rain. I doubt I will put any under them even when it gets hot. I want them to have good drainage, and I don't like any standing water due to the mosquitoes. They get really bad.
Thanks for the nice comments!
