I found a streaker!!

Post by renaldo75 »

I saw an interesting leaf on Antioch last week & kept forgetting to take a closer look until yesterday morning. I was surprised to discover one leaf that was heavily streaked & when I followed the petiole down to the ground I discovered the other leaf was also streaked. :o :o  Shocking stuff for my garden!! But then this hosta was originally HostaRod's that I got from him a couple of years ago. So it must not know that it's in my garden now & isn't sposed to do stuff like this.

I'll have to do a little research on Antioch again. I can't remember if it's very fertile. I'm thinking not, but I could be wrong. At any rate, it's a 8-) find, and I'll enjoy it. :P

Another leaf - not from the same division but I thought it was interesting & showing just a bit of possible streakiness.

Nice find! 'Antioch' (aka 'Moorheim', in my opinion) has given me some very, very interesting seedlings. Even the normal plant usually has some variegated seed pods. This one should be a nice parent. My most notable is a sieboldiana-ish plant with splashed golden variegation that fades to all green by summer. I'll post pics tonight. It was open-pollenated from a non-streaked parent.

Yea Reldon! Now watch for a streaked scape, and you are on your way to streaked babies next winter.

Hey Ren, and here you thought discovering sporting behaviour was only for the 'privileged' few, well, WELCOME TO THE CLUB, there are no dues, only the obligation to keep us all informed of how you're faring with it. Exciting stuff, what?

That sure is a nice looking seedling, HD. :P So it's greener this year than last? Or do you think it will get more yellow yet this year? I like all that corrugation. 8-)

I'm not tellin it a thing, Sue.

Linda - I don't think this plant has even bloomed since I've had it, but I'll be paying attention this year for sure.

Yep, Pieter - I couldn't even get much of my foot into the sporting club door until this. Except for my green Revolution sport & the Twilight developing a white margin early instead of yellow. If I thought I found a sport when I was buying a hosta, I discovered I was incorrect later. :???: I've never so much as seen a real sport when I've been looking at hostas for sale. LOL So this was a very pleasant & big surprise!! :P
