Hi All--When I purchased Fall Bouquet back in 1994, I was interested in getting a plant with red petioles. Fall Bouquet does have them but since the foliage conceals the petioles this otherwise unremarkable variety has little interest for me now except late in the summer when the blossoms are carried just above the foliage in an attractive display. At the time I got the plant there were very few varieties with any red tissue. Now, of course, there are a number of varieties, even some with red showing in the leaf tissue. It is of little interest to slugs, also. Despite growing right next to Kabitan, AKA Slug Magnet, Fall Bouquet has had very little slug damage. My plant has been considerably wider than Lemke's listing of 18x12. The plant has usually measured about 34x13. There are some botanists who consider Fall Bouquet to be the same plant as longipes Hypoglauca.

I just got a little piece of this one from a friend last year. It is still a tiny 2 eye baby and I had no idea what to expect. It is so great that you offer your experiences with all your different plants - you are a fantastic resource!

Alexa, You are right on his being a great resourse. Now if only I could figure out how to put it all in a database for myself to be able to search out the info I want!

You should write a book. It would sell a million copies. Pictures and all that information. Just what hosta people want

Hi--Well, sort of.

Over time a number of people have suggested that I write a book but I have an overriding problem...I'm lazy and would rather do other things.

I actually raised the question of co-authoring with another person who has a great wealth of knowledge about hostas but I guess neither one of us is that inspired to take on that kind of project.

I just got Fall Bouquet in the trade from Andrea/Ademink. Just one division for now. It's good to see what it will become eventually. Is Fall Bouquet a fast grower?

I saw on Hostapix that Indianabob said Herb Benedict & Alex Summers [?] thought it was the same as longipes hypoglauca. And that was good enough for him. I agree.

I have been updating a bunch of Hosta of the Day to add flower pictures from this past season. And creating some new HotD topics that hadn't been done before but I had flower pictures for them. Once in a while I'll stumble across a HotD that hasn't been updated but I have some "old" pictures that can be added. Fall Bouquet is one of these - just adding some old photos from the 2009 to 2012 season. One point of interest - there is a reference to this hosta being the same as longipes hypoglauca. I don't think it is - the flowers are different - Fall Bouquet has a lot more white on the edge of the petals. I will compare the two at the end of the topic.

A comparison of flowers of Fall Bouquet and longipes hypoglauca

Fall Bouquet has white going almost all the way up the edge of the petals while longipes hypoglauca has virtully no white except for the little "star" formation in the center.
