Show me your Lakeside Party Dress

Post by barbara »

:D Lakeside Party Dress, please! I need to see some pic.'s to decide if mine is o.k. or a dud. Can you also tell me how long you've grown it. Thanks, I appreciate it, but won't say so after every post

Well I'm on my third one, and its just as weak and unappealing as the first two. In my garden they've proven to be slug magnets, poor growers and not as pretty as the Hosta Library pics.

I keep trying and I keep getting disappointed.

Here's mine this spring. This isn't the best pairing in my garden, but both plants seem to be doing well here, and I hate to risk losing either of them by messing with them! I'll try to get a better pic of LPD later, that is, if the cutworms haven't found it.

Maybe Peedee Laughing River is a better choice for the same effect? Not the greatest picture here, as the sun was coming through. The leaves get a little broader as the plant matures.

Hi Barbara~
There were a bunch of incorrectly labeled plant sold a few years back. They were actually Lakeside Prissy Miss. How do you mean yours is a dud?
Cheers~

Hi Kathie
I didn't think it was growing too well, but from the pix, its about the same...it just never wowed me, still doesn't :( guess I was expecting more from it.
I'll see if I can pull a few weeds and take a pic. of it, and you all tell me what you think!

My 2 are much younger than those pictured...but both look pretty much exactly like the first pix at the Hosta Library. The leaves arch out, slightly more upright than purely horizontal and don’t touch the ground. When those pictured were younger, did they also hold their leaves well off the ground?

I really like mine - especially the streaked one. The borders are very uneven this year on this one - some places very wide, some very thin and some places missing...often on the same leaf.

Party Dress

That's OK, Reldon. If the spirit moves you, you can always pretend there's a party.

Party?

Post by thehostagourmet »

That's OK. No need for the disappointing LS Party Dress, but 'Party Favor' is a nice plant that I use in hybridizing. It's still on a party theme. It can be a summer barbecue, and we can all dress casually.

Have most Mary's more recent introductions been somewhat disappointing? I throw that on the floor for discussion.

Hey Reldon, if you'd like a party dress, I can certainly lend you one of mine. What about a red one, that's a great color!

Party on! :bd:

Well I tend to be more of a jeans & t-shirt kinda guy... But thanks for the nice offers. :o

George - you might want to start that as a topic on its own [if you haven't already].

Have you tried emailing the hybridizer to see if it requires any special conditions to look it's best?
