Witches Brew and Thumbelina

Post by Patrushka »

My Witches Brew still has a way to go to look like the picture that made me buy it but I think it's coming along nicely. I really like Thumbelina. It's so cute! Thanks Alexa. :D As you can see the cutworms like it too. WB and Thumbelina were not touching when I planted Thumbelina there last year so someone must be growing.

Are you sure it's not Thumbelina growing?

Well I'm glad that one of us has a good looking Witches Brew!! Don't even think about dividing it cuz it sure looks happy where it is. I may try one again if I ever run across it. I still have the pic from St. Louis that made me need one.

How bit will Thumbelina get? What a cute name. I always loved that story when I was little.

Thanks everyone. :D

Jane. No, I'm not sure.

I'm sure you could find room for Thumbelina, LucyGoose.

Reldon, I was hoping you would post a pic too. What happened to yours?

You picked a good little grower Alexa. 8-)

Ginger, I had to look it up. :) According to Lemke's Database, it's a small, 14" x 8".

Charla, I thought it was hard to find when I bought mine but The 2007 Hosta Finder lists 8 sources for it. :D

Pat - mine was a no show last year. I dug down to see what was going on & there was no crown. :o Just very healthy roots attached to nothing. :???: :hmm: The other hostas around it in that holding bed were fine. Even Morning Light right next to it was still alive last year. [It was a no show this spring.] And when I moved something into the Morning Light spot this spring, I still found a couple of healthy WB roots attached to nothing. :-? Kind of fitting that I put Bizarre in that spot. :???:

Of all the hostas that have died on me in the garden, Witches Brew was the one that upset me the most. I'd finally found a very nice one for a great price in 2004. It looked great in 2005 - no problems of any kind. And in 2006 it wasn't there. And you know how bad I wanted that one after I saw it in St. Louis. :???: Oh well...

Pat - if you could, PM me the places that have it for sale this year. I'm reasonably sure I know 2 of them, but was curious who else did. Thanks. :)

Awww, Reldon, I'm sorry to hear that. :( I remember when mine had southern blight or some kind of fungus that I suspect was in the top soil I used when I planted it. I thought I was going to lose it too. PM with sources has been sent.

Thumbelina

Post by thehostagourmet »

With all the talk about Witches Brew, I thought I'd post a picture of my Thumbelina. It's currently holding at bay the evil spruce tree roots where it's called home for three or four years. Measured today 18" x 7".

Your Thumbelina looks great George! I guess I just tucked mine in without giving much consideration as to how big it would get.
