Large Vestigial Leaves

Post by wzbt03 »

Okay, has anyone else noticed how large the vestigial leaves are this year?
I have talked to others that claim it is due to more moisture.

Any thoughts?

Attached is a picture of Stained Glass with a larger then normal vestigial leaf.

I have some pretty big ones on a few. My 'Francee' hostas are the most developed...and have about 12 scapes each. One of the scapes, I noticed the other day has 3 good sized leaves on it. I was debating on when I would have to cut the scapes off...they are just about done with their flowers.

What moisture....? None here in the North East. I guess my (what did you call them) vestigial leave (new vocab word for today-thank you) are not as large as yours....

My hostas are all new this year but I was surprised to see all of the leaves on their scrapes (and wondered if this is normal). Anyway:
None here in the North East
in this part of the Northeast, we have had a lot of rain with few very warm days. The new little hostas must think they're in hosta heaven and most have bloomed or are in bloom. I read somewhere that it is best to take off the blooms the first year but have been reluctant to do that.
