Pick a streaker for me!

Post by bengal »

OK, I've just read the posts on Ice Age Trail. That's a very pretty hosta; in fact, I can envision myself getting one -- particularly a blue one with streaks. But I must confess, I'm basically still on the fence when it comes to streakers. To my eyes, most of them look like they're neither fish nor fowl. [She says, ducking to avoid getting hit in the head with a pot.  ]

Maybe a real empirical test is needed. Maybe I need to grow some in my garden. Maybe I'd change my mind if I had a few maturing ones here.

So maybe you guys could list your favorite streakers. And show many pictures! I need all the help I can get!

I don't know who is selling them this year, if anyone. Can someone check the 2007 Hostafinder to see? I passed on buying one this year.

'Risky Business', 'Swirls', Color Parade' & 'William Lachman

Post by buff24 »

Here's some of my favorite streakers...

I have a streaked 'Risky Business' that I LOVE (sadly, it's sterile, and won't set a single pod for me, but I still love the streakiness:)

If you're into the dwarf/mini hostas, here's 'Swirls', a fun little streaker:
Hosta Registry - not registered

Another of my favorites, 'Color Parade' (reluctantly set 1 pod for me last year):

MyHostas - http://myhostas.be/db/hostas/Color+Parade

This is a recent acquisition for me (you can see it's still just a 1-eyed baby,) so I can't speak for it's growth rate, but I have heard lots of good things about it's breeding capabilities, and I just love the coloring:

Thanks for the ideas....and the photos! So far, I really like Diane Gray Dalton, Color Parade, and Blizzard. In fact, I really, really like them! Not to mention Candle Glow -- I particularly like the chartreuse-y green and white combo. Or apple green. Or whatever you call it. Come to think of it, I really, really, really like Fire And Brimstone and Blue Lightning, too.

Well. That's not bad....going from on the fence to seven possible buys. Instead of picking one, maybe I should just get all seven. After all, you need a large sample size to conduct a good scientific study.

'Gunther's Prize' is a really colorful streaker. Mine is just a one-eyed baby, but unfortunately I don't have a pic. It really stands out compared to all the other streakers I have.

I saw Blue Lightning at the First Look auction this year and fell in love. Fortunately I was able to leverage the buying power of two (and enough plant to go around) to acquire my first streaker!
