Pic of the Day--Radiant Edger

Post by Hank Zumach »

Hi All--Radiant Edger is a nice attractive plant with an appearance that brings to mind the "Tiara" group of varieties, which it does not belong to. Since being added to our garden in 2002 it has been growing in a spot that gets about 3 hours of afternoon sun. With measurements of 10x4, 13x4, 16x8, 18x7, 23x7 and 25x7. It seems unlikely to reach the registration size of 34x14 listed in Lemke's Data Base. What is different this time about the size discrepancy is that the registration size is larger than the actual plant. I checked the plants in the Library and those plants seemed to be about the same as mine.

It does look a lot like a 'tiara'. Very pretty little plant though....I like the color and the nice little leaves.

I really liked mine...it was one I lost from the freeze due to crown rot. The roly-poly's got it!

This one's one of my faves - it has very good substance and few bugs succeed on it. I like it so much I split it into two, so one can grow in the shade and the other in the sun. When planted in a sunny spot, the colour contrast is enhanced, with the edge quite a strong gold. I had it growing along the driveway - hot and dry - and it did great there.

LOVE this hosta. In pictures it might look like a tiara, but in real life, its leaves are thick and sturdy. Mine is very sun tolerant and grows like a weed. Colors are outstanding!
