New Info at HostaLibrary

Post by Bill Meyer »

Hi Everybody,

I just added a tutorial on a way to isolate sports at the HostaLibrary Reading Room. If you can still see leaves, it is not too late to try this. I've had good success with it myself.

I also updated the HVX section with more photos and info. Some of the photos in Pages 1 & 2 came from Hallson members. I tried sending PM's to the owners asking if I could use them but didn''t hear back from everybody. Because this is in a good cause I put them up in hope they wouldn't mind. If you see your photo in there and want me to remove it, just let me know and it will be gone. I can add your name on it too if you want, but didn't because I don't know everybody's real names.

Great work Bill!

Can I assume the highest and best use for this procedure is removing eyes from streaked plants? Although I can see its use with any reverting plant.

I offer that instead of digging the plant one would use a hose to wash down to the eyes and remove them then recover the eye with mulch.

I believe removing the roots from the symbiotic relationship with the soil will cause some loss of growth the following year.

"Symbiotic relationships" only occur between two different species.

Great information, Bill!

That is exactly what I’m talking about, search mycorrhizae and plant roots. Dr. Sara Wright did the ground breaking work at the USDA but you can find her research without going to the USDA.

For those who can just understand, mycorrhizae and other fungi plus many, many organisms develop symbiotic relationships with plant roots. When we remove a plant from the soil we damage those relationships. This does not necessarily occur in pots but will always occur in the soil unless we interfere.

Thank you Bill

When I look at the plant I see an one eyed hosta, but from your next pics I can't be correct - have i understood it right ?

If and when I understand it   Can I use it ?

Better start a new topic..... Would have waited a bit, but it seems like this is the time
