Freeze 'em or no?

Post by eastwood2007 »

As I said in another post, I can't start my seeds till after Christmas. Someone asked if I will freeze my seeds till then. I dunno.... Should I? Or will they be okay in the fridge or at room temp?

I always just keep then in their envelopes at room temperature until then. I've never had any problems.

If Pete Ruh says 'Freeze them!' I do!

when I get seeds and know I can't start them right away, the envelopes are put in a small zip loc bag and stored in the freezer until I am ready to go!

Just keep them at room temps here, but can't say, they won't be better if they had been in the freezer :-?

I'd leave them in the refrigerator. Freezing would only come into play if you were planning very long term storage.

Perhaps the person wondered if you were going to cold-stratify them? Even then, I think refrigerator temperatures would be more suited. [i.e., planting the seeds in flats, kept moist and cool until bringing into room temperatures under lights]
