Pic of the Day--Lakeside Twiddle Dee

Post by Hank Zumach »

Hi All--Mary Chastain has been more prolific and successful than any other hosta hybridizer. It is hard to imagine a hosta collection of any size that would not have any of her great "Lakeside" series of plants. An example of the wide spread popularity of Mary's work is the fact that six of the plants in our Friendship Garden are the result of her efforts. Today's variety, Lakeside Twiddle Dee, falls into the "small" category since its expected height is between 6 and 10 inches. The Lemke registration data puts the mature clump measurements at 11x8.

Registry - not registered as of Nov. 2012

Don't have that one. I presently have
Lakeside Cupcake
Lakeside Elfin Fire
Lakeside Looking Glass
Lakeside Shoremaster
Lakeside Zinger
in my collection and I've been very happy with them although I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Looking Glass as I had it in a pot and it didn't drain enough last year. Was looking pretty sad when I got it into the garden.

On Twiddle Dee - I like the reddish petioles. Might have to look into adding that one.

I hope to add more Lakeside hostas next year, I just have 5 or 6 now...Knickknack, Black Satin, Coal Miner, Shoremaster, Neat Petite and Little Gem.

May have to add this one, Hank. Thanks for the pics.

I have the following Lakeside hostas:

Black Satin
Cha Cha
Cupcake
Kaleidoscope
Shore Master

the only one I was sorely disappointed in was Black Satin. Maybe it will survive the winter and look bigger next year.
