Pic of the Day--Bizarre

Post by Hank Zumach »

Hi All--Bizarre is one of those plants that will never make it to the AHS Most Popular list. It is a decent enough looking plant, but only for the first half of the season. By July it starts to develop wear and tear and by the end of the season it looks downright worn out. We have had it since 2000, growing in a spot that gets about 3 hours of direct sun. This is another plant about which there is incorrect or confusing information published. Zilis lists the plant at 30x15 and Lemke's Data Base and Wade & Gatton have its size at 8x8. Starting in 2001 my plant has measured 13x6, 18x9, 22x10, 26x12, 26x11, 25x10, and 27x10. Slugs like this variety a lot more than I do. The pix, from 2002 and 2007, were taken in late June before the plant began its annual decline.

Those are nice pics of Bizarre, Hank! I won't show the pic I have of my Bizarre, because it was taken in late June and it had already started on it's path to holiness.

Here's a pic taken in late September. It usually looks worse than that by that time in the season.
