How 'bout that AUCTION?

Talk about hostas, hostas, and more hostas! Companion plant topics should be posted in the Shade Garden forum.

How 'bout that AUCTION?

Post by KatailS »

Hi All!
Is anyone watching the First Look auction? I am surprised that there is so little chatter about it! Halley's Comet sure knocked my socks off....

I have to say THANKS to all those who work hard to put the AHS Auction and the First Look Auction on! I don't know what I would do to keep from going crazy this time of year without them!
Cheers~

I've looked it over but can't find any information about how to donate a hosta for auction. Maybe it's too late to do so and that information has been removed? Don

Don,

Try looking in the Importaint Announcements then clic the Welcome To The First Look 8 Auction you should find Carol's and Bill's email addresses to make your donations.

Hope it's 'Rhyno Hide' :D

Hope this helps! :D

Don, I'm sure they still need donations for these last six days. Jeff's instructions are correct.

Yes, I just sent an email to donate a single division of 'Rhino Hide' (PPAF), one of the very first to leave my garden! I have greatly apprciated the AHS, the Hosta Journal, and the HL over the years, and it's my privilege to help support their efforts in this way. Don

I've been watching it, too, or at least I was until our phone service went out Saturday. Finally got it back mid-day today, Monday, so the first thing I did was go and look.
Our phone seems to go out with every storm, and with it, my internet service. Online auctions don't go so well with that scenario, especially since the storms have been coming along every weekend, and the auctions end on the weekends.
So, I watch and drool.

I've been watching the First Look Auction. :o And finally I just had to bid on a couple of hostas. Now I notice that my hosta friends are outbidding me on my favorites. :???: I mean the favorites that are within my budget for donations.

That Halley's Comet is awesome! But so are several of the other plants. I want them all! LOL!

What is the money from First Look going for this year?

Linda P get satelite internet!

I think the trick is to find one that offers multiple eyes and find a co-bidder in order to be able to afford some of these. The prices in this auction are mostly more than what I can afford. I did manage to get one on the last auction, if not the cheapest...it was close!

Rhino Hide is doing quite well! It's gone from $50 to $140 in a few hours.

OK, what you bid on if money and space were not a factor?

If I had to pick only a few, I'd get Rhino Hide, Halley's Comet, Purple Haze, Bob's DB Seedlings, and Yoshinogawa.

I like several others, too, though!

I didn't see any information on what they are doing with the money this year. Does anyone know? Is 1/2 going to the hosta library again?

I am sure it is posted somewhere but i couldn't find it :hmm:

TIA and good luck bidding

It's not posted, because they haven't decided. I asked.

Darn if money was not an issue.... most of them... but if you have to add 2 or 300% on the price for posting and taxes ,,even on the post  .. it is impossible

hey..want an EU auction too

If $$$ were no object, I would have that chunk of Uberageous heading my way. That one is TDF in my opinion!
