OK usually I can take it with a grain of salt when one of my hostas dies but...

I'm sad to say that my entire clump of Ribbon Dancer bit the dust this year. Yes it was the one and only clump and I was going to send it to Walter's this year to be TCed

So say good bye to my baby

No! I'm so sorry. It was the one I saw the other night that inspired me to want more hostas again.

Was it due to the abnormal upstate NY winter? I noticed a reduction of eyes in some varieties this year, and that's never happened before. I also lost the majority of my liatris, kniphofia, my heucheras took a hard hit, etc....

so sad.

Please accept my deepest condolences. She was truly a beauty. I keep a tab in the back of my Hosta Binder marked "RIP" Rest in Peace. It has photos of those that didn't come back. Mine, however, are varieties that I could replace if I found I couldn't live without them. Yours, on the other hand are simply irreplaceable. I'm so very sorry.

Oh, Kent, I am so VERY sorry! OMG, that is just horrible! That one had taken Atom Smasher's place at the top of my LUST list. How long will it take you to start over and make us (oops, you) another one? It should be faster the second time around, won't it? Oh, please, do give it a try? I'll settle for pretty close to that one...

Man, I am going out tomorrow morn and dividing my Regal Flame and streaked Blue Angel. I keep putting it off because I am scared I will kill my two best hosta...but I am taking your disaster to heart and I am gonna whack them up and hide a few pieces!!!

I just have to check...are you absolutely sure its gone? Did you find any traces? Maybe its just late emerging...quite a few of mine are lagging quite a bit this year. Or do you think that maybe, just maybe, when that herd of buffalo (your son's dogs) rampaged through it might have gotten moved over to an unexpected place? Even just a shred?

Thanks everyone, yes it's totally mush, but hey what are you going to do? If you really think about it...it's just a hosta. Just why did it have to be that one

That really bites is all I can say.
From now on, to avoid this tragedy, please divide all of your beauties and I will safely secure them in a southern Illinois garden spot for you.
Really, I am sorry for your loss. It is a lot of work to bring a hosta to this point and we all are cognizant of the work it takes to breed a hosta and take it to this point.
