New Favorite Garden

Post by renaldo75 »

Yesterday was cool & cloudy all day. We had a few light showers off & on. Last evening there was nice light for some pics. This garden is on the north side of the house. I planted it last spring, and I'm really liking it so far. I especially like this combination of plants near the sidewalk.

Love Pat has never looked this good or been this large. Neither has Emily Dickinson & I've had both since 2002. And I realize that it's still not all that large yet so I'm really excited to see it in coming years. I'm pretty sure that I need to move it back a little further. The combination with Love Pat, Emily Dickinson, Stirfry, & Fragrant Blue is one I don't think I'll ever get tired of seeing. And when Spring Fling gets bigger... WOW!!

Blue Seer is planted near the house, and is always nearly the last to emerge. Every year I forget that fact & think it's dead so I have to do a bit of poking to assure myself it's not. H. montana 'Mountain Snow' was out of the ground before Blue Seer this year if that tells you anything. I don't know if it's this slow for everyone. I don't recall anyone ever mentioning it. At any rate, it looks like it's just beginning to unfurl in the pic because it is. BUT - this year it has 2 more eyes than it's ever had before so I guess it likes the new location. :)

I hope you enjoy the pics. :P

Renaldo....thanks for sharing your favorites with us.

Strifry is stunning in your gardens. It is fun to see my seedlings in other peoples gardens.......I like the color.

Went to Connie's last week and saw her Whop. seedlings, hers looked even different than yours. The "Bees" have been doing a good job.

You did a great job taking photos!

Beautiful hostas Reldon. Your hard work has really paid off!! I especially love that 'Stirfry' too, I've become partial to the ruffled edged hostas. I'll have to put that on my list.

Beautiful garden Reldon! Great combo. I agree it's going to be fantastic when Spring Fling gets bigger. I especially like your Stirfry and your Love Pat. 8-) My Love Pat has some leaf damage this year.

Another vote here for Stirfry. I've mentioned before that a few years ago Bridegroom was all the rage, particularly for its upright nature and twisted tip. I think Stirfry has some of the same characteristics but a better mound shape and better leaf proportions. I think it should be on the short list for "every hosta garden should have" - but it doesn't seem to get a lot of mention...

Thanks for the nice comments everyone. :D Stirfry was always in a holding bed under the crab apple until last spring. I think it's at least double the size it was last year. And I'm loving it just like all of you are!!

I've got a Bridegroom in another garden that's about the same size. You can definitely tell they're siblings. I like each of them. They're both unique I think. It's harder to photograph though. I have pics of that garden that I'll share too when I have time.

Nice pics, Reldon. Blue Seer is usually the last one up in my garden, too, so it's not just yours. This year it was several days after On Stage. Some years they trade off, they're the last ones every year.

Thanks for the confirmation, Linda. :) I hadn't looked for/at my On Stage this year until after it was already up & unfurling. I need to get it into a spot where it can be a star.

Don't cha have to hit 1000 to attain true Hosta Happiness?
Then 2000 is Hosta Nirvana? Of course, you have to win the lottery and buy a huge huge amount of land first, then you get to true Hosta Heaven! :D
