Unknown gold... ID?

Post by doublemom2 »

I have this gorgeous gold hosta and I can't remember what it is! I got it years ago as a TC, and of course now I can't find the tag. It's much wider than it is tall, and a very very full plant.

I know it's a long shot, but any ideas?

Thanks,
Andi

Judging by the flower scapes, it appears to be very close to montana lineage. Maybe someone else can be more help!

Nice looking plant. :)

That might be a possibility. I have one of these that is a reversions of Paradigm. Who did you buy the TC from? A lot of times I have to go back through the old catalogs to try and figure out my unknowns. Helps to jog the memory as to what I might have purchased.

The really tough ones are when you get things that you know isn't what you bought, but are determined to figure out :P

The TCs were from Winterberry Farms, and I've searched and searched to find my invoice from years ago, but I can't find it anywhere.

Oh, well, it's gorgeous whether it has a name or not :)

Not sure of the flowers, but if it's very wide, maybe 'Doubloons'? That's a big, wide, gold hosta.

Hi Andi,

I'll check out their old catalogs to see what they might have been offering that could look like this.

I was wondering if it was a Winterberry Farms order - if so it could be anything, since they were not always very good about sending the correct plant anyway.

Abiqua Recluse will bloom with Paradigm, Doubloons will bloom with Alvatine Taylor. So if you don't have them, now you need them for 'research'. Yeah that's the ticket.

The bloom scapes are much too tall to be Abiqua Recluse. I mean, there is a shorter one in the pic, but it can't be AR.

This one has me thinking...

How about Dee's Golden Jewel?

Dee's

When you said Dee's Golden Jewel...I though no, that's not right and thought I have seen this hosta before! I thought immediately "Dee's Golden Goose" or just "Golden Goose". And I could have swore there was such a hosta, but alas, not in the hosta library.

It does look a bit like Golden Waffles, though.

Thanks for everyone's ideas so far, you're all the best!!! Unfortunately, none of those names are ringing a bell for me, but keep them coming and at some point I'll hear bells and whistles in my head and recognize the name :)

I looked through the Winterberry Farms 2004 list and there were only 2 solid yellow plants that could be possibilities:

Ok. I looked up your list (easy as it was on page 1) and it hasn't been updated since 2004. Was it bought after that? Here is what might work.

Abiqua Zodiac, Glory, Golden Gate, Golden Sunburst, Golden Waffles, Hottsey Tottsey, or King Tut. Unless of course you got it and never added it to your list. Hmm.
